With the hype of Apple ipad slots, Apple Inc. is trying to persuade investors and customers that ipad's are as desirable as the company’s iPhone and iPod music player. The company is trying to convince its consumers, developers and publishers, who have failed to embrace tablet devices in the past.

http://modmyi.com/images/Messany/apple-tablet.jpg

The investors in Apple are looking at the ipad to bolster the company’s sales. Offering a ipad would add another product alongside the iPhone, whose sales doubled to 8.7 million last quarter from a year earlier.

So, do you think Apple ipad can be as successful as its iphone & ipod?

Apple products are always known in the market for their quality products. As we all know its a complete computer with multiple and good quality facilities. Like the iPhone and iPod Touch, a tablet can run the more than 100,000 applications created for Apple’s mobile devices which distributes those applications through its App Store. Also, iPhone developers are interested in creating programme for Apple tablet. The Apple tablet which is coming in the market also has these kind of quality facilities which people are admiring but the only problem not many people opt for that is its high cost. I think if it works on its cost factor, it will have better market than iPod and iPhone.

At least in India, price matters ( price is really a dominant factor ). I was going thru postings to know :-

--- ipad's current price in INR and availability here

--- approximate quatation may be  sufficient

May U pls ?

By this time, it is already established that the iPad is a success with overwhelming sales figures. I saw shops full of iPad accessories in Singapore although iPad was not released there then.

I am writing this in response to the points some people mentioned as why iPad will fail!

1. No Flash: I never liked Flash. It is buggy, resource hog and outdated. I use Adblock extension in Firefox which blocks Flash from Website. You need to click on the Flash icon to play the content. I never clicked on the flash icon. You can also install this or similar extension on your browser and see for yourself. Not many people is/will missing Flash.

2. No camera: Truly, It doesn't need a camera. Do you think anybody is carrying an iPad without carrying a mobile which already have a Camera? Why add a camera which would have increased the price?

3. Failure of Notebooks and Netbooks: Sincerely, mp3 players were a failure before iPod arrived. Touchscreen was not that popular before iPhone. Netbooks and Notebooks were poor man's Laptops where iPads are Smart People's gadget:)

4. Kindle and other e-book readers: Considering Amazon Kindle have a Black & White screen, the colorful iPad is expected to blow them away.

5. Positioning: I was also skeptical about the positioning of the product. Will it be used as an ebook reader only, or what? But it appears that finally people find the Digital Notebook which does many other things. It is not a substitute for Laptop or Mobiles but its a replacement for your diary/notebook which can also sing and dance:)

6. No Multitasking: This is a real problem. Good news is Apple is introducing multitasking in iPhone OS4.0. So Multitasking should be introduced in iPad too.

7. You will love it when you touch and hold this thing in your hand. Try holding one and it will be difficult to resist the temptation.

As with iPhone i think even iPad will be a success. Mostly because of the high quality products which Apple produces.

Yes, there might not be many features available in iPad as of now. But even in the iPhone 2.0, not many features were available which were incorporated in the later version and they have been major sellers in the market.

As with any products, iPad is in the introduction phase of its life cycle, and the product is still evolving. I would believe in the future releases it will be a high quality product which Apple always produces

Yes sonam you said something right. But would like to add you with something as ipad is just now being launched. So its better to watch the market and seek the response of users. As technology need to be feasible. In case of ipad we need to just wait. As indian conditions are quite different. But still there is no doubt that ipad is future

Yes, it will be revolutionary product. With govt. rolling out and going for 3G auction, it will gain significant ground with all India 3G roll-out by private telco operators. Its also having a separate 30pin keyboard, which means it can be used for substitute of laptop also.

You are going to get all major apple products in one device, iPhone, iPod, Books, photo viewer and editing s/w, everything.

All the best.

I have mixed opinion with this launch of ipad's. Positive points are - 1. A device with built-in use cases and lots of content on board: iBooks with 5 publisher deals in place, app store’s 140k apps, browsing, music, video, photos and email. 2. Competitive pricing aims for mass market appeal. 3. Beautiful & thin HW: 10h usage time, stunning screen, fast and responsive to use. Negative points are - 1. Tablet computers have existed for a decade with little success. Can Apple convince consumers that they need this gadget? 2. Some call it an oversized iPod Touch with limited capabilities at this price point. Some cannibalization of iPod Touch is likely (64GB Touch costs $399). MacBooks may also be vulnerable. 3. No multi-tasking! A big weakness vs. Windows 7 based Slates! AT&T network: Likely minority that will consider 3G may shy away based on AT&T’s currently overtaxed network 4. Missing features: web camera for video conferencing, camera, Adobe Flash, USB, ‘live’ customizable home screen, HSUPA.

I believe that if you have success stories to talk about, any new product from the same stable in the same or similar vertical would always benefit from the success of the earlier products. It is always a nice idea to let the success rub off on the new product as well!1

The tablet looks good, solid and high end... After all its an APPLE :))

Thanks for the referral and sorry to be late as usual :D

It should be successful as the efforts have been made in that direction. The only concern is handiness, it is bit in size to pocket or it should be facilitated to wrap in pocket.

i think it will remove the requirement of laptop's but it will be more demandful is we reduca the cost b'coz if each & every normal person can able to purchase this apple ipad then only it can reduca the requirement of laptop if it is costlier than laptop then not so much people can efford it this will reduce its demand in the market

The tablet pc's can be successful if the economy picks up everywhere, where the ease of carrying it around become a necessasity for traveling citizen. Executives might still prefer big screans of laptops for graphs and charts and all unless the tablest has good graphics.

The reading tablet will be successful only in countries where people has reading habits and environment is a factor. If it generates heat like laptops then only an AC can meke it move. Abroad all homes are environmentaly controled so it may not a probelm there. For India we have neither AC's or reading habits for citizen not the selfimproving type. From graduation till retirement they live in the same state.

Indeed it will be successful.Every new product when it comes out in the market gets a good response from the audience.Sometimes, it takes 1 month to get going.

It is just the beginning of the success for Apple. This company is famous for its virus-free products.

It will gain momentum over the time.

I agree with Sonam Kapoor`s argument here.Thank you Sonamji for the reference.      Steve Job`s dream of creating another iconic product seems to be materializing. However I feel that the critical aspect here will be the price.Only if this product is priced around the 300$ mark (or come down to that price in 6-8 months) will it be able to capture a huge market share and only if it captures a huge market(at least 8-10 million worldwide) will it attract totally new and game-changing applications and services providers(like online Books,Newspapers and Cable  TV SORT OF THINGS) and become the icon it is hyped to become.

Apple is known for Innovation and Revolution. The Apple Tablet will surely be a hit, the buzz about the tablet is already huge. The strategy of Apple of not disclosing the product has been tested and proved with i phone. There are many people waiting to grab hands on the product, a simple example of the Hype created, the Tablet is going to come in India after almost a year after its launch, still we are awaiting it so there are many in US to grab it...

It will be a hit...

iPad is NOT having flash support and it won't support multi-tasking (have to close one app/program to open another). And there is no built-in camera and much more shortcomings.

I agree with the concerns and views of Mr Phani ,

The only thing left to see is how do good does this ipad can become as an ebook reader ,a digital photo frame ,a video conferencing tool etc.... it has the potential to become so but by just throwing a cool device out in the market ,it doesnt serve anything.Apple needs to understand this , Amazons Kindle is dedicatedly an ebook reader which  is fine in tis own way .

Not everywhere does the method  of Cool design tweaks work but thats is just me , if people start purchasing this on a large scale for whatsoever reasons , Apple will sky rocket in its sales :)  only time will tell .

It is not easy to predict something but at this time it is safe to support for 'No' because it will be a difficult task for Apple Table to be as successful as its iphone. They might be popular but for successful they have to sell their products.Products will be sold when (quality+facilities+performance)/cost will be more.Lets see what happen in future.

Apple will have to overcome consumers’ reluctance to adopt tablets. The devices, which typically lack a physical keyboard and rely on pens or touch screens for input, account for less than 1% of the personal-computer market despite being available since the 1990s. I think because of this, it won't be as popular as iPhone and iPod in the market.
