I am wondering that If crude oil and other fuels can cause pollution or warming. Then what about Bio Fuels ?? Can they cause any harm to our environment ???

What do you think ??

Will Biofuel harm the environment ??

YES or NO ?? Take your side

U r right vineet , It will definatly harm environment. Its Produce Carbon diyoxide, tho its reduce the quantity.

No, it will not harm the environment. The amount of carbon dioxide released by burning fossil fuels in a year can harm the environment and result in warming, with bio fuel the  amount of carbon dioxide released can be reduced by almost 20%. This reduce in carbon dioxide clearly indicates that the bio fuel doesn't harm the environment.

I provide the Web references for you to judge and which are self - explanatory ... though there may be lesser degree of environmental impact in the immediate and short term basis, there is all likelihood of considerable environmental impact !

You are absolutely right Ms. Shetty, though it pollutes less how can we call it eco friendly?

There is no doubt about ecofriendlyness of the bio fuels, but when burnt it's not only the fuel which burns it burns with other lubricating oils how about then? Are we going to change those supporting oils too with bio friendly lubricants? Let's not take it for granted that bio fuels are eco friendly, consider the amount of heat generated the amount of carbond dia oxide and carbon monoxide, frankly speaking even LPG or CNG are not eco friendly though they pollute less, the only alternate is self generating electric equipments. Which is also still under trial.

Any fuel till it is in fossile form is good, but once burnt it'll turn in to carbon and definitely affect.

In my opinion it will, if billions of carbon dioxide is produced annually by buring fossil fuels. It shall cause planet/global warming and increase the temperature and therefore harm our envionment..

Same is with the case of bio fuel, the land used for growing bio fuel crops are hurting the environment with deforestation, the loss of forest for the sake of growing bio fuel crops will result in changes in environment.

I take the side of YES, Biofuel will harm the environment.

no way bio-fuels are harmful to the environment. Even if it is that is very negligible when compared to the crude oil effect. In fact biofuels help in reducing the global warming. For example, if you are using microalage as the biofuel soure, they sequester the carbon-di-oxide the culprit from the atmosphere. the lipids obtained from algae make a good energy source. when it is burnt the harmful gases that are released into the environment are negligible. These fuels are carbon neutral. the net amount of carbon added to the atmosphere is zero. So biofuels are eco friendly.

No, Vineet. I dont think that biofuels are going to harm the environment any how. Its an other question about its sustainability, but ofcourse in terms of environmental benefits it is surely benifit the ecosystem

Bioethanol as a Major source of Energy (Fuel Oxygenate) and also other advantages that accrue with Ethanol Distillation. The two major fuels for source of Fuel energy are diesel and petrol.

Bioethanol when blended with Petrol acts as oxygenate to burn Hydrocarbons completely reducing emissions, particulates and noxious gases.Feedstock availability and Scale is critical for successful blending, Sugarcane has proven to be the most successful feedstock.

With little controversy of Food Diversion to Fuel and Sugarcane Distillation moving towards second generation, Technological advancements, Carbon, Energy and Water foot print models being worked out we foresee Optimization deriving Enhanced Yields.

Most of SAARC/ ASEAN nations have successfully cultivated Sugarcane for Centuries and have known all aspects and Implications of this Crop on Soil, water, Air and Animal Husbandry unlike other Crops.Recent New Developments in Agronomy, Harvesting, Crushing whole Cane, Improved Distillation Practices using better Enzymes, catalysts have been Improving Capacities of Ethanol Production.

Apart to Price of Ethanol Commodity, factors of Carbon Footprint of Hydrocarbons, Logistic Implications of Transporting Hydrocarbons and its Distillation, Particulate emissions from using Hydrocarbons either leaded or using MTBE oxygenate which has shown impacts on Water bodies in leakages need to be seriously looked in to. We have to adhere to Kyoto Protocol to reduce CHG Emissions.

Visible was effect of dependence on Hydrocarbons and its Impact on Economies which is swift and Unpredictable, making life of Ordinary populace more miserable.

Renewable like Bioethanol minimize such Risks, apart to generating Rural Employment and improving Rural Livelihoods manifoldly. They also reduce Emissions and enable a platform to avail Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) in reducing Methanation, also on Co2 reductions and also in generating CNG out of Distillation Sludge.Sugarcane Crop is believed to be Sequestering Co2. New Cultivars and Methodologies are being studied at Southern Cross University of AU on Sugarcane Sequestration.

Biofuel use can never at all harm the environment , on the other hand it will help to make environment pollution free. It will help also in reducing global warming too.

Bio-Fuel use will not be harmful to envirinment, because,

1.Bio fuel will cause less carbon di oxide emission, as compared to fossil fuels.

2.Use of Bio-fuel on commercial basis will reduce the need of mining. This will protect earth against excessive mining and damage to earth crust.

3.The plants needed for Bio-Fuel (e.g.Jatropha) will have to be on "grow and consume" basis. This will see spurt in agriculture based business activities. It will also increased employment opportunities in rural areas.

4.Plant cultivation for consumption as a raw material for bio-fuel will ultimately increase Forest cover.
