Nowadays one must have heard about the cloud computing technology that many IT companies are starting to adopt. No doubt its an innovative concept but one gets the feeling somewhere it is threatening IT jobs down the line. And to support this there is also investment happening on cloud service which will increase to some where around $40 billion. Analyst firms also confirm this, that as time will pass cloud computing will become more and more prevalent. So do you think this cloud computing will be a threat for IT professional Jobs?

I think yes this will surely create problems for the future according to me, as the investments happening suggests that this is the area that one is considering for the future, but then now there is Saas which is popular among the IT sector but Cloud computing is the next step for that matter, so I think cloud computing will create problems for IT jobs in future..would like to know others take on this.

Cloud computing is not a new concept - but an extension of already existing popular concepts like SaaS.  Cloud computing involves accessing computing resources that is not physically bound to the organization's datacenter. Cloud computing saves on upfront investments, energy costs, etc.

However, there are many challenges that are similar to those faced by SaaS and IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service).  Overdependence on a cloud vendor may cause the organization to lose control over its business and other computing activity.  Security is of prime concern as it is not known where data of the organization shall reside.  This may cause legal issues with legal  acts concerning data protection being in place.  Most cloud vendors will adopt to storage of data where it would be cheapest for them to store as they need to be competitive.  Privacy of information could be another major concern.  Also, Cloud computing works best when bandwidth for accessing applications on clouds are not a concern.  With most countries still being very expensive on the bandwidth front, the bottleneck for cloud computing to be readily adopted still remains.  So, outsourcing of all applications onto a cloud vendor may not be a feasible solution for organizations.  There still would be applications or services that need to be deployed and maintained locally.

IMO, cloud computing will affect IT professional jobs, but shall not pose a threat.  It might create a venue for lesser but more qualitative jobs in organizations.

Every new technology opens some new doors of opportunities.  So we cannot take Cloud computing as a threat to the IT manpower. But it is true that people of every profession requires to keep themselves up-to-date with the changes. Those who dont know or dont want to know will fall behind in the race.

I am in total agreement with your point. Cloud Computing is not going to reduce the IT Jobs. Its going to take IT to a higher pedestal.

Thats right , the security and privacy adds a lot of weight to the traffic, especially when it is desired to provide redundancy and loadbalancing architecture . All this further add to the bandwidth requirement

According to me there’s nothing to worry, and it won't be a threat, this won’t happen at least for the next few years. As of now SaaS is in.. and cloud computing is the next level but not its replacement. It is more likely to take five years for any company to switch over. Indeed, cloud computing will create new jobs for monitoring infrastructure performance, datacenter operations, shifting to cloud service provider like Google, Amazon etc. So nothing to worry according to me.
