A former Deputy Chief of Mission of the US embassy in New Delhi in 1984 in an interview with NDTV, told that Warren Anderson's release from house arrest in Bhopal and his flight to Delhi was arranged by the Ministry of External Affairs. According to Gordon Streeb, the US did not want any action to be taken against Anderson and that the then Foreign Secretary M K Rasgotra assured him that nothing would happen to Warren Anderson during his visit.

A crucial point of the controversy over the Bhopal gas tragedy verdict has been the exit route offered to Anderson, who was the American CEO of Union Carbide Corporation (UCC) in 1984 when a gas leak from the company's plant choked Bhopal. Anderson's departure from Bhopal was not a stealthy one. He flew out on December 7, hours after landing in Bhopal, on the official plane of the then Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Arjun Singh.  He then stopped in Delhi before leaving the country. But the verdict delivered last week, which offered a nano-punishment to seven Carbide executives, all of them Indian, has led to a new public anger pivoted on why Anderson has never faced trial.

So users, do you think Congress will ever come clean on Anderson?

Anderson got safe passage from India under the assurance from the MEA, the Foreign Secretary. The decision of his bail was taken by the center (INC). Clearly it can be seen that it was Anderson's understanding and corruption in Congress. Though not directly, Iam sure if pressurized and the power being taken off, Congress will be compelled to come clean on Anderson.

Yes Congress has nothing to do with Mr. Anderson as any political party whosoever would have been in power then, would have done the same thing that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did. It is the morale responsibility of Indian Government to arrange the safe passage of Mr. Anderson who came to India only after taking the assurance from Indian Govt. It is one of the biggest industrial disaster of India, yet I feel the tragedy has been converted into a political melodrama where blame game has begun rather than any real outcome. I can only say that we must view the gesture of Mr. Warren Anderson, the then CEO of UCC as noble and humanitarian who took the pain to visit India immediately after the accident but landed himself into trouble when media started blaming him for the accident. How pity, I think the media has forgotten the huge amount of compensation (millions of dollars)that was given by Union Carbide Corporation almost a decade ago could not be utilized when mostly needed by the victims, but what is painful is that we are shouting for more like beggars. Media must shift its focus from Mr. Anderson to the then local management of Union Carbide's Bhopal plant who were entrusted with responsibility by the company for its production as well as safety of the people and plant and are the REAL CULPRITS WHO ARE ROAMING SCOT FREE. Indian judiciary system has not been able to frame charges to arrest the actual local culprits (Bhopal plant management and the then Safety in-charge) which is more shocking rather than the present furore to extradite Mr. Anderson. Mr. Anderson has done exactly what other CEOs would have done. He termed the accident as a biggest disaster and took part in the condolence and made every efforts for earliest release of the compensation so as to reach the victims on time. Seems media is not interested in facts because twisting of facts sells like hot cake.

hmmm..very difficult..they have no intention to do so...but..but...but...if people like play footbal on their head..then they might unwillingly do so... See there is no pressure from people to reveale the confidential files how Netaji went missing...so Congress never allowed to reveale the files even after courts ordered them...hah hah...hmmmmm

Dear Himanush, Thanks for the topic. But I am against your arguement. Either you are real optimistic or a loyal congressman. I belive that all are thinking about and discussing this issue only because of Media is sensationalising this for TRP or to beat other channels. As usual every one will forget this topic as soon as another topic would get for the Media. and I sincerely believe that Congress or any other political party will come clean on any Issues.

you need examples. Babri case, Bofors, Harshad mehta, Madhu Koda list is endless.......
