The term GM foods(genetically-modified foods) is most commonly used to refer to crop plants created for human or animal consumption using the latest molecular biology techniques. These plants have been modified in the laboratory to enhance desired traits such as increased resistance to herbicides or improved nutritional content.

Not only can genes be transferred from one plant to another, but genes from non-plant organisms also can be used. The best known example of this is the use of B.t. genes in corn and other crops. B.t., or Bacillus thuringiensis, is a naturally occurring bacterium that produces crystal proteins that are lethal to insect larvae. B.t. crystal protein genes have been transferred into corn, enabling the corn to produce its own pesticides against insects such as the European corn borer.

So users do you think consumers accept GM foods over Normal foods?

GM foods are Pest resistance, Herbicide tolerant, Disease resistan and Cold tolerant. It can also tolerate draught and less salt in soil. Also GM plants can be genetically engineered to clean up heavy metal pollution from contaminated soil. I think with having so many properties, nobody will ever deny that this plant is better than Normal crops.

Yes we have to accept this because as our population is increasing day by day these type of food product is the only upcoming method to fulfill appetite. So, beside some disadvantages GM foods are essential requirements also.

GM crops can cause environmental hazards problems as it causes unintended harm to other organisms, It will make insects tolerant to Bt crops because of no pesticides. herbicide resistance genes from the crops into the weeds herbicide resistance genes from the crops into the weeds due to gene transfer to non-target species. It has a lot of health risks like life-threatening allergies and bringing a GM food to market is a lengthy and costly process which is not affordable for everybody. I think because of this not many people will opt for GM foods.
