We all know about the plan of Youtube to launch movie rental service. According to a news report, it is discussing with big-media studios, new-media startups, individual filmmakers and major Hollywood studios about providing movies and content for it’s online rental service that debuted on Friday.

youtube-rentals

The online rentals from Youtube currently offers movies from the Sundance Film Festival for 24-hour to 48-hours for $3.99. Anyone with a Google Checkout account will be able to rent these films. As with other movie rental services – Netflix and Amazon, videos begin to play back immediately after you make the payment. In India, Bigflix has already tied up with Hulu to offer Bollywood movies and hit Indian TV soaps on an International level.

As we all know that Youtube is the online streaming partner of IPL 3 and the movie– 3 Idiots which has created a huge wave among the audience is also available on Youtube legally, Do you think now other content providers will also follow Youtube?

I think so. With providing so many facilities to its users, Youtube has already gained a lot of popularity among its users and simultaneously has grown the number of users. Other Content providers must also be seeing this as an example togrow their business and I believe they will also use the formulae to grow their business as Youtube did.

Youtube indeed has become an example for other content providers but they also know that youtube has a very good market base with plenty of loyal customers. Overtaking it using its own formulae is not so easy. So I think, in order to compete youtube, ther content providers will use different strategies rather than following Youtube's way of acquiring market.
