The corruption is on for last sixty years or so. How do you expect it to die down so soon? I think rest of it has been mentioned by you which are true word by word.

Corruption may trump human civilization. As far as I know, if it comes about corruption everywhere is the same. It's tragedy humans aren't able to organize themselves yet able to throw an object off the solar system ...

No doubt YES? Because the so called white coloured fellows show their ugly face. They don't go to vote. All that they do is write letters, articles about corruption and corrupt political system. Hypocrisy is other face of these educated ediots. There is a solution to put an end to the outraging corruption. That is when all voters, giving up their ego, laziness etc, go to polling booths and caste their vote in favour of a candidate of their choice then the entire political arena in India will get changed into brightness. Is it possible? NO These corrupt politicians who are buying the votes from the poor and down trodden exploiting their economic weakness are not at all bothered about the educated voters. Because they are well known non-voters. As long as this tendency continues the corruption will rein in politics and ruin the economy of the country.

Your point of views are correct Ms.Disha and views posted by Mr.G.A.Narayanan. Our country is being looted by the people with vested interest and what general public can do ? and they may either vote to the same candidate or not which is the only thing they could exercise during election. All power is with the people who are in the helm of affairs. They can not be dared by the public due to protect their lives. Very interestingly all the scandals and corruption charges are very easily, may be take it easy attitude, forgotten by people of India. Hence the politicians know when to and how to make the general public fools. Unless there is a change in our political systems the present plight will be continuing. The corruption prevails everywhere from top to bottom since there is no adherence in following rules & regulations enacted by the land of the law. Everywhere the escapism is there. The law makers are the law breakers.

Dear Mr. Manoj, I knew about 49-O and asked for it in the last election. Do you know what happened.... Nothing, the polling officer just blinked and dint know about this at all. Neither did anyone in the crowd. Of course, there were goons representing each party who just were interested in seeing me out of the booth. However, even if some people do know about they are not bothered to exercise it. This is exactly the "Public Apathy" or "I don't care attitude" that has brought our country to where it is now. Some other polling booths, during the recent elections in TN, were taken over by the ruling party "Goondas" who were happly casting the votes for their candidate, while the genuine voter and polling officers were mere spectators, watching with fear for their lives. If this is the case in an urban center in TN, which is supposed to be a very peaceful state, just imagine what the condition would be in other states of the country. The entire government machinery, including the Election Commission / IT Dept. / RAW / IB / etc., functions as per the wishes of the "Congress Party". What ever the diktas are from the congress it is carried out faithfully. Only persons supporting congress are put in key posts in all departments in the central government. Then how could one expect a free elections. Every thing is rigged and pre-decided even before a single vote is cast in our country. Unfortunate, but it is true...

Agree. It may take some time, but I'm hopeful that it'd eventually happen. Education may play a role - as the people in the 'hinterland' become more aware (also through TV!), they may see through identity politics (though people may sometimes also display regressive tendencies as in the honour killings). The trend may also be affected by expansion of the fruits of economic development to those currently not benefited. After all, it may all come down to money - when people are not looking at caste-based politicians, for instance, to gain their livelihood (besides security!), they may well be inclined to give the go by to identity politics

There is no such 49-O in any 1969 law! Please don't spread rumours about 49-O or any section or sub-section of any law unless you have read the section yourself. Here is 49-O of 'THE CONDUCT OF ELECTIONS RULES, 1961' relating to non-votes -- "49-O. Elector deciding not to vote.—If an elector, after his electoral roll number has been duly entered in the register of voters in Form 17A and has put his signature or thumb impression thereon as required under sub-rule (1) of rule 49L, decided not to record his vote, a remark to this effect shall be made against the said entry in Form 17A by the presiding officer and the signature or thumb impression of the elector shall be obtained against such remark." As for those who don't believe that this is what the law book says, I encourage you to check for yourself. Ref: http://eci.nic.in/eci_main/ElectoralLaws/electoral_law.asp -- Download 'Manual of Law Vol II', you'll find it on page 99. Also see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/49-O

I would totally second with Manoj... instead of discussing and re-discussing and keeping on discussing for the last 35 years may be (like the way we have done for West Bengaland putting the state's future down the drains) we should be aware of our constitutional rights and exercise that unanimously... lets scare the politicians instead of vice versa !!!
