Data Mining will be main stream reasearch as most technologies pertaining to statistical mining, business intelligence, data warehousing, strategic analysis are merging into a single integrated platform. The patterns, associations, or relationships among all this data can provide information. For example, analysis of retail point of sale transaction data can yield information on which products are selling.

data mining for decision making is questionable

data ming  basis of which is data ( authenticity of data is ?)

what about data not put on paper ( classified for your eyes only)

be happy mining spurious data.

computer algorithms are not going to help you and your company too far

Although this field is quite promising, still it is highly unlikely that it will become the main stream subject.Major focus of research will be on effective and efficient use of information.
