CBSE has declared that a student doing well in co-curricula activites will be awarded with extra marks in class IX. For instance, if a students wins a debate he will score some extra marks in english for his leadership skills. This step is for overall development of the students. It is indeed a good move but will this improve the attitude of students toward so-curricular activities?

Given the complexities of social stratification, the kind of environment they live in, and the upbringing style of parents, you can not expect every fingers to be alike. In some case, you need to do pep up exercise to make them live upto their own and parental expectations. Giving extra marks in such circumstances would definitely improve the attitude of students, but not always!

In my opinion it will not be a good option for improving the attitudes of the students. May be this option distracts the students from their original motives. May be all the time they are preparing for curriculam activites. It is good that we are giving importance to Extra Curricular Activities but merge it with marks will not be a good option for those who are shy, studious students. Schools might be issue a rule that every students should participate in extra curricular activites of thier own choices but it should not merge with marks.

At last one positive step by the CBSE ! Not only will it develop the students hunger for more marks but also help in developing him into an all round personality rather than a bookworm.

marks are not every thing. I think often students who don't score well have some other qualities and talents which should be recognized by teachers. Today we need great teachers who not only teach but inspire students to take challenge in life.

It is always good to encourage children by giving 1 or 2 marks, and give them a competitive feel to grow in future. And this will happen only thru teachers and parents supporting them to participate and be active in all other activities, Marks alone will not help in their future, it is only to encourage.

Of course but grading system is good rather than allotting the marks ,in grading up to 5 marks it will not effect anything i mean grading intervals,so sometime it may advantage for somebody some times not ,so better to fallow grading system.

For some students, it may help them pass the exams and reward them for contribution in extra-curricular activities. This will help the students in satisfying their parents also and thus reduce stress.

We dont realise the importance of one marks. I do think so that 1,2,3,4 marks can change the attitude of a student and his/her life because one mark puts you into 1st division and one less marks puts you into 2nd div. and so on.so it makes a difference.

its similar to saying 'if u drink more water before u start running, you will not get exhausted on a sunny day'. Marks are an end result and the process matters much more than the marks. I have personally seen people who score 100/100 in exams and are a real flop in real life!!

if a child realize the important of one mark it would not improve the attitude. But it will take some time to realize it. grading and marks not effecting the mentality of a child. only parents and teachers are making it as important.only marks wont show the performance of anyone. it is just DATA for teachers.

Giving extra marks will not help in any way. It would instill a false sense of achievement, and 'marks' are definitely not a yardstick for intellectual growth.

Students who are good at co curricular activities paticipate and show their skills anyways. They do not need such motivation .It is a motivating step and it might work well for students who were not participating in past. But if these students don't get a good result ( they don't win ) They might not consider it a good option.
