As the RFID market continues trying to “find its groove,” will the technology join the list of such supply chain efforts as logistics collaboration and rail transport that may be enormously helped by the Green Supply Chain phenomenon?

What do you'll say..??

The answer may be yes, as several environmental initiatives in the supply chain can be well-supported by RFID technology. Increased supply chain visibility based on RFID reads could give companies a better view of when inventory problems might be arising, allowing them to take earlier action that might relieve the need for expediting freight. Employee Sensing and reuasble cans can also help in RFID adoption.

Hi Shailana ji,

Green Supply Chain and RFID are both latest and very relevent concepts today. But I think they are independent in their objectives. They may be simultaneously adopted in a system, but with different purpose. Green supply chain strives for estabilishing cost-efficient supply chain with least impact on environment. RFID aims at bringing in transparency in supply chain and tracibility of product. RFID is also for information flow for customer and all the participants of supply chain.

Both are very important. But I feel they are independent and do not promote each other.

But I will feel happy to be proved wrong. So please elaborate more to establish link between them

I would support Vardharajan statement that RFID gives visibility of the product at anty point of time . Its just like DHL  Tracking its couriers through radiofrequency detectors  where one can see the exact status of the packet at any point  of time . this can give directions  to make the product to be  available at the least amount of time the ideal critical path . This  also helps us to find the best logistics , bestpackaging and the least amount of road miles travelled with would reduce the carbon footprint . We can also look at lesser packaging so that there is less material sent to landfill .Utimately Grren supplu chain = Profitability = competitive advantage of the company . But I would like to reiterate that it deopends on the industry

RFID will definitely help in green supply chain - green supply chains strive to reduce environmental degradation resulting from activities performed to suppor the supply chain functions. RFID is a tool that helps track inventory from its point of origin till goes into the hands of the customer. This allows efficient tracking of inventory and its timely replenishment. In short it improves visibility in the supply chain. increased visibility leads to reduced consumption of fuel, electricity etc. and hence use RFID will contribute to reduction in environmental degradation.

I dont agree with satwal's point as I dont think it will happen like this. Anyway, Green supply chain will not be a catalyst in RFID growth.

There are various points in this regard. And Mr Saitwal, If you are not able to understand english then try to take a 1-week refresher course in English or Wren-Martin is the best book to refer.

Hi Mr. sujit,

Thanx for not giving me "thumbs down".

Will you please elaborate, on which point you do not agree?

Kindly try to use clear and correct English.
