Will hedge funds become accessible to the middle class?

As far as suitability is concerned, for the true middle class, there are already options to invest in hedge fund like vehicles that are registered as mutual funds. Given the lack of asset flows into this niche area, would probably signify that from a mainstream perspective, the strategy is not yet compelling enough to really gain some traction.

I understand that investors can be categorised based on their knowledge only. This is because all other factors like risk, return expectation, horizon, liquidity, tax benefits, etc. will all fit when they are actually aware what these parameters mean and how these affect their investments.

Hedge funds have structures that might not be very common for middle class. E.g. Market neutral strategies like long on a particular sector/stock and short on another is a common strategy for HFs. But these might not be even heard by middle class. More so in India where media is also not very active in covering them.

Hedge funds are meant for rich individuals who dont mind losing once in a while but get a kick out of beating the indexes, so they hire star managers to take those risks to make money.
