Andreas Schaaf, the new president of BMW India , is busy understanding the dynamics of doing highend business in India to fine-tune the German auto company’s strategy to sell its luxury cars in the country’s booming market.

BMW’s Indian subsidiary, which started operations in 2007, proved to be its jewel in the crown. Sales in India grew by a robust 43% to touch 3,301 units during the first eight months of this year. Last year, the company sold more cars here than its rival Mercedes-Benz India. German carmakers — BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi — have, in fact, dominated the luxury car market in India.

So, what do you think people, will India lead the luxury car market??

I think yes, India will lead the luxury car market in coming days on both the fronts infact, new cars and second hand cars which are also available in these luxury car segment.  In India BMW & others has been able to cash in on the India growth story, despite being a late entrants. They have narrowed down India as a niche market globally for growth, based on its performance over the last two years. “India may not be a large market in terms of units sold, but it remains the strongest potential market globally and will outgrow all other markets in future....

I agree too. Top guns.

India is already leading. If we think of the population and the millionaires we have , definitely we are the champs.

No, it won’t lead the market.

But surely will give some jewels. Because people won’t prefer to buy an Indian Luxury Car, until the brand is fully worth to own. BMW, Merc & Audi are high end products & I am sure the owners feel pride to drive their dolls. Instead India can create wonders in small, hatchbacks, sedan & SUVs car market. Tata & Mahindra will cut the ribbon of gates to wonders.

But Indian Brands will surely give some heat to the Foreign Brands (in case of Customers pocket share); because after all some of these foreign brands are made in India by Indian people with Indian Raw Material.

How? Compare the quality of cars produced by Maruthi and TATA with Honda's and Toyota's. they cant even match the Japanese in quality wise performance wise or build quality or safety. forget about beating the germans! even japanese dont have an answer how to beat the germans in luxury segment.
