There is no major global product yet identified as being developed in India. Some may argue that India may not have to pursue this path of developing a globally competitive innovative capability, given the size of its domestic market that still has so much headroom for growth.

Industries that come to mind as offering possibilities for India to develop new products not just for domestic consumers but also for global markets are entertainment and fashion, given India’s extraordinary history of local innovation in these arenas. Our IT industry has done a fabulous job of providing globally competitive services, but are they aiming to give the world the next Google, Facebook, or Twitter?

It is certainly true that Indian companies have always had very strong engineering base. Indeed, it was this underexploited engineering culture that drove the efficiency movement of the 1990s in India. But the people who drove this first transformation were largely industrial engineers who focused on process and systems. It may take a different kind of engineering culture to drive innovation. Indian companies don’t yet have a great track record for world-beating innovation. So I think its still a long time for Indians to come up with something like Google, Facebook or Twitter

Yes, we can surely do this. All these products are result of Out of the box thinking. If we have great ideas and will to implement our ideas we can create better products than this...

Yes Its absolutely possible even to Indians, as Impossible is always untried, its only a matter of Trying, and now adays we see so many innovative ways of our own indians to brake through. so i am confident that one day we too will have something which world will be using invented by our very own INDIAN.

This question actually says that we have a short memory. Sabeer Bhatia was the first one to bring out great initiatives over the internet. Who has not used Hotmail once in his lifetime? But I guess we enjoy a service and when something surpass it, which is the natural phenomena, we forget about it as though it has never happened. We should not forget that NASA has more than 50% workforce from India.

Why not? India is a democracy, and every citizen is free to live in her/his own ways, why to restrict someone as long as his activity is harmful to others. Even when we have not allowed it is happening allover illegally, then why not to permit them ?

Yes,definitly we will be able to develop such sites and actually we are doing a lot but behind the scenes. For this firstly we have to think differently and have to provide our talent to the nation.Every new student is moving to abroad and is joining foreign comanies.Better if their talent is used for our country.

The most "innovative" thing that  indians have done in the past 2 -3 decades and mastered is the offshore development model. This has become all pervasive. Even if india is into product development outsourcing it is still treated as a outsourced project and loses its essence of innovation. All parameters on which project outsourcing work is done are applied to Product development  : for example work hours, salary, CTC etc. In my opinion Indians can be innovative in getting products out , but not in Indian companies in India.

Develop and encourage ability to QUESTIONING mainly WHY

I dont believe something interesting coming out of india in near future untill and unless we change the way think First and foremost we must have curiosity mind which we dont have we generally takes everything as given not have habit of asking big WHY. Untill that happens not much innovative products come out of india I give u one example How many of us know why we do certain things in our rituals like arti, tilak. Untill we start asking WHY we closed our mind for better alternative

Are these three a benchmark of judging success?I think you are barking up the wrong tree.Indians are far far ahead in many things. They are main ingredient of every sector;be it business, science, commerce, even techonology. These three are at the apex,i admit but it is irrelevant to compare our own success with respect of these three sites.

Not in the near future. Believe me, we do have the capability, but, because we are a young nation; only about 60 years old; we do not yet have a sophisticated business, economic, social and cultural eco-system in place, which supports innovation. We are developing fast through globalization and liberalization, so, there will be a day in the future for sure where one will see companies like IBM and Google rising from India and competing with the west.

Everyone knows that Indians have the capabilities; the proof for which is the number of Indian entrepreneurs doing well in the west. But, currently it is difficult for such companies to develop and flourish in India.

its not possible in near future...and its not because of work environment.. but also because of study and cultural environment,..

70% of indian student want  to be goverment servent... jaha no kaam.. 10 to 5 job... and pension...

fix salary on last date...etc...

koi kuch karna hi nahi chahta.... parents want ke unka bachcha padh ke job pakad le...bas.. jaise taise job kar le...

chahae kuch bhi ho...

same.. in offices... just do given work. no need to think on ne thing else...or something different...

how can it be possible to design ne thing innovative.. it this kind of mentality...
