Will Intel buyout of McAfee workout for them??

Intel has agreed to acquire McAfee Inc. for approximately $7.68 billion ($48 per share in cash), the company announced today. The boards of directors of both companies have approved the deal, which is expected to close following shareholder approval and regulatory clearances.

It’s a huge deal for Intel, primarily a hardware company, to acquire a security-oriented software company, especially one as big as McAfee.

So, Is it a good decision for an hardware company like Intel to buy a security oriented software company McAfee?

I think its a good decision at the moment as security has become an integral part of computing, which makes it their business, too.  With the rapid expansion of growth across a vast array of Internet-connected devices, more of the elements have moved online. In the past, energy-efficient performance and connectivity have defined computing requirements. Looking forward, security will join those as a third pillar of what people demand from all computing experiences. Hence this is a good deal for Intel.

I think it is good decision. Intel is no doubt one of the best chip manufacturers and the acquisition of McAfee will provide a bright prospect for hardware-enahnced security. However, it will be interesting to see if McAfee proves to be a right security partner.

Intel is largest chip maker company and it can enhance the security feature in Chip designing which can use across computer and other electronics gadgets.It can also also reseach the chip level security feature with MCAFee security feature....

 intel has exellent brand name and one of the best h/w company,so its a good decision taken by intel to buy MaAfee,in this way intel can enter in s/w field and it helps in expansion of intel and this company will face no problems in launching new products in market as its brand name is famous and i think its a exellent decision taken by intel.

Yes, this is a good move. However as Intel the Mcafee will continue to operate as a wholly owned subsidary, and it enables the Intel to security software with hard ware  to provide better protection to its customers

I think if it happens than it might be possible that intel is going devlope some system which will not be affected by virus,or may b some processor because some tmes its virus which heal our processors. And miss puja i appreciate your thought and like to ad some thing to your thoughts it will not be mismatch because intel is now going to come in feild of security as it is doing research work in this field from last 5-1o years.

Its a great move. i think the security issue is finding relevance not only in PC's but also in mobiles,Ipad,s and other touch kiosks. Wil have to wait and watch how Intel will differentiate itself from Norton,Kaspersky and other giants

Intel buyout of McAfee makes prudent business for Intel since internet security in today's core product line will always give more edge to the product than to have a sublime or a tie up of sorts with different security products which may or maynot make much progress to the core product

I think taking over MacAfee will not work for Intel. No doubt that intel is one of the most frontline manufactures of Chipsets.. But Hardware Security will not workout for them.

I have very less Idea on this, but don't you think its a bit mismatch here in Intel buying Mcafee, I mean a chip maker going for security solutions, it would have been great if they had bought someone like AMD or someone else in their same field but Mcafee I don't think it is a smart buy.
