I mean this debate is going for ages, the male female ratio in IIT campuses across India, there are very less female students in these campuses, I mean no offence to the opposite sex, but I don't think they had it in them to go through the rigorous process of IIT, and there were very few females who made it to the IIT's in all these years.

And let us see in future whether the Male-Female ratio ever change in IIT's?

I think lately there are more female students who are going for these IIT's but when we were studying at IIT's that was not the case there were hardly any girls  here, and guys were sad that the next 4 yrs they can't hangout with a proper girl at these IIT's.

But now we are seeing more Female students do good at IIT-JEE exams and are coming to these IIT's for their education.

I can't agree with Rahul here, I mean the male-female ratio is 8:1; in a typical batch, it is around 20:1. Besides, those females who manage to crack the JEE are, in all probability, unlikely to win any beauty awards. Even then the skewed ratio makes them queens.  Also girls don't like to study in a place where one has to spend nearly 4 yrs in IIT itself, they like to hangout more and do stuff, but guys are total opposite here.....

So, there is some serious issue interms of Girl ratio in IIT's all these years, and I don't think many girls are able to crack these IIT-JEE exams and until and unless for girls the criteria for selection is reduced then we can see more female ratio if not, the situation will be the same even in future also......

I cannot agree with Rahul nor Rajat.

MIT is the top school in the world for engineering.  It has an extremely rigorous curriculum, and is very selective. It nearly has a 1:1 ratio of males to females. However the ratio of male applicants to female applicants is 3:1.  This shows that the females who applied were much more highly qualified (and there is no affirmative action towards women).  So your thought that "I don't think they had it in them to go through the rigorous process of IIT " is erroneous- if females are more qualified in America in the engineering field and such a ratio can reach in the top college, then it can definitely be true in India too.

The difference is society.  In america, females do not face as much sexism as they would in India, and are encouraged to go into fields with technology.  They do not think of themselves as any less intellectually- because they aren't.  Intellectual achievement and gender are mutually exclusive.  Success has everything to do with hard work and self confidence.  Problem is, in India, women are lacking the latter because they constantly hear people say things lake Rahul "they don't have it in them".  Society molds a person into who they are.  Women are just as capable intellectually as men.  It is not the standards for women or their intellectual-ability that has to change.

It is the societal view and attitude towards women that has to change.
