As per Google it is expected that the rates that companies pay for search ads on mobile phones could surpass the rates of its existing PC-based ad business thanks to the growing popularity of powerful smartphones. Mobile ad rates have increased "dramatically" in recent years and the number of Google searches on mobile phones have increased five-fold in the last two years.

Google, the world's No.1 Internet search engine with $23.7 billion in 2009 revenue, has stepped up its mobile efforts as consumers increasingly access the Web from smartphones like Apple Inc's iPhone.

So, will mobile ad rates surpass online ad rates??

Mobile ad rates will definitely be high as compared to online ad rates with the entry of 3G spectrum in India as already MTNL & BSNL has started with the services but once the private cos get their licensed it would definitely add to the ad rates on mobile as you can browse, chat, blog everything on ur mobile as you do it right now on ur pc/notebook.

It would be a faster mean to communicate through your phones as in uploading a video on You Tube or Blogging or chatting. Its just a matter of 12 - 18 months for the hike to take place.

No, I don't completely agree with you Ruchi. Though mobile ads have penetrated the market but majority of ads are displayed online/PC's. Companies are spending more on online ads now a days.

Since India is moving towards Internet boom, online/PC ads will be more profitable than mobile ads. Further the no. of smartphone users is less than the no. of PC users.

So, I think mobile ad rates would not be able to surpass PC/Online ad rates.

Yes. Mobile ad. rates may go up due to the increase in usage. Actually it should be reduced when the usage is more. It all depends about the trend in the market.

we are living in exponential times , and google is aggressively pushing for "mobile first " hence one can only be optimistic that the mobile ads will surpass PC based ads .

Based on the statts and findings as claimed, lets agree that mobiles though came much later than computers in this country but surely outnumber them as of now. And then, computers can’t make you talk while mobiles can. Companies, Models, Features – everything related to mobile has been on the rise each passing day and consumers dependence on Mobile would is sure to increase manifold. With high range of advantages in place, the mobile ad rates are bound to increase.

Reasons:

1. Mobiles help focus a very targeted segment.

2. Mobiles require less expertise to handle promotions.

3. Mobile promotions are expected to have a higher convert ratio...

4. No or low over promotion... so less threat of a negative perception about sms promotions.

5. Mobile promos can tap the rural, and city life, that is not internet savvy.

6. With data Oceans like Naukri.com and yellow pages, the scope for promotions and focused market activity have become easier.

Cell phones are computers the last time I checked. At least that’s clearly what Steve Jobs has in mind. Verizon and AT&T are just loving this

Guys, I think the way technolgies are advancing it seems that mobile ad rates surpass online ad rates. Today people are able to acess the web from their smart phones & perform all the activities that they do on a regular PC. Further, mobiles are portable & more user friendly than PC's.

So, I think in future mobile ads rates will surpass online /PC ad rates.

Though  it is correct that mobile help focus a very targeted segment and mobile promotions are expected to have higher convert ratio. But at the same moment

internet use is increasing with a greater pace so i do not agree completly with ruchi argument.i donot feel that in near future mobile ad rates will be able to surpass the PC/Online ad rates.

No I do not think so as online PC has more viewable area as compared to mobile screen.  Pop up options, side line ads etc leads to have more space for advt on on line.

talking about Rates and not the quantum of money thru a particular channel.

Hence looking at the rate for mobile Ads will be lower as the subscriber base is so huge but the selection of the user+ Ad+ rates+commodity will be thru a software for given info for RATEs.

I agree with Sumitra for two reasons: The first one is as already stated. While the smartphone users may be increasing it is still a very small percentage of the population. The second is that online and TV ads make a longer impact than a mobile ad does on an individual. The persistance of memory is better with online and TV ads. For some time to come atleast I believe this will be the case.

I agree with you Sumitra. The no. of smartphone users are pretty less & people feel comfortable to use PC's for browsing & other activities.

Though mobile ads are creating an impact but PC or online ads are way ahead .
