There are no free lunches. Someone somewhere is putting effort and incurring cost to provide what we deem as free news/information. There is a business model working here to make profit or recover the cost in some form. Rupert Murdoch is talking about strengthening or changing the business model, maybe in favor of news providers. I think, people will pay for authentic information which is packaged as per their needs and delivered as per their choice. We all need right information at right time. There is no harm in paying for what we want to consume and how we want to consume. Of course, we are ready to pay for clean water, clean air and the TV Channels but we expect free information on Internet. Think about this - Do you really think that all the free information is free because they care about you and humanity? Even an individual opinion-maker wants to make money on his Blog. Premium and authenticated content does not become free just because it is available on Internet. It looks like free on Internet because it is copied, replicated, pirated and aggregated many times on Internet. I think, we need to think beyond just paying for the Internet connections. What we see on our TV sets includes both the electricity bill and the Channel fees.

paying few money for onlne news is not a big deal because today we are living in the world where people most frequently use internet on their laptops, desktops or on mobile also.if we are getting updated news any time without any difficulty then paying for that is not bad.

The Internet being such an ocean of knowledge, I dont think any single news organization will be able to charge for online content.Yes may be those who provide Bundled services of many different media, like Google or Bing may eventually charge for premium content.

It seems to be a wishful thinking. Considering the internet has spoilt the consumers with most of the things for free, specially News. The only option could be if free News on Internet is banned under some kind of copyrights law. Unless that happens, I do not see consumer would pay for online news.

Only when all the players in this field become paid, then we might just see some migration of users to paid accounts. Also, they still have the options of watching it on TV and reading newspapers at home. Also, aggregators like Google and Yahoo! will still be providing RSS feeds for News. (News is a big business for Content Sites for Ads)

It is a general concept that when you are paying something, you need the service exclusive. This is human mind. There are very few readers who will pay for online news sites. The number is not very large. While reading a news, the paying reader feels he should have his/her own copy which he can read in free times not while working on system/computer.

Naah, I don't think anybody is going to pay. Let me tell you the reason. In the real world, we pay for the newspaper, not for the news. On world wide web, there is no paper, we use our own electricity and browser to read. We will pay for classified articles, knowledge and ebooks but not news. Further, why do you think twitter is so much success, news is already turning into tweet man.
