Social networks are becoming a common place for all kind of people to share their views .So people started moving from search engine to social network because social networks are very attractive and interesting to surff. The current trends with Google and Yahoo are giving higher ranking to sites or content based upon social network voting. Does search engines needs to be updated?

I know it is pretty early to say on this but social networking are really playing a vital role in the field of marketing and entertainment. People are using search engine in social media networks to find information. People trust this information more....

It will be interesting to know other opinions on the same :)

The best example for this is Twitter. We use twitter for searching most of the things now than google. But I guess google will go for another 5 years at least before everyone takes away search capabilities from it.

Very Quick Information is possible  in social networking compared to search engine. Search engines also give good results but it always gives long results and hence time consuming.

In social networking we have polls,updates,events ,.etc regularly refreshing(updating) which is very much important in todays world and makes all our doubts,work,.etc clear.

Yes of course as we see some editable web sites like Wikipedia is not trustworthy , atleast to me, how can we trust some informative site which can be editable by anybody, also at times when we Google out some topic we find different work at one topic so the confusion, here at social networking we may know how much capable a person is, which field he belongs to and there discuss on one issue by various learned people will make wipe out the search engines....

To the best of my knowledge these two serve two different purposes. The search engines are meant for searing the data required from the lakhs of sites. No doubt some times the information retrieved may not be useful. When it comes to Social Netowrking, it is meant for grouping of people according their interests. Here one can share their ideas or views within/across their groups. Again in these communities if people want to get some info again they have to use search engine.For example if one wants to know the info on technology on toostep, he/she has to search the same on communities.
