the way the bill is worded, it is highly discriminatory against men. 1/3 the seats for women ok. but these seats rotate. a woman can stand in a "general" seat. good performing women, if they after the first stand, seek to comeback from the same constituency as a "general" candidate can do so - and possibly win. the "womens" seat somewhere else will be contested only by women. so this increases the percentages. it is suggested by many that if the ladies do a good job at their work, they can be easily reelected on the general seat= this raises the percentage from atleast 1/3 in law to around 75% within a couple 3-5 elections.

Our Constitutional Fathers have realised that in a highly discriminated Society as ours, where for millenia, the under-preveleged (including women, who were forced to tend the home, the children, the kitchen, the domestic chores and bringing water from afar (in certain cases from as far away as Fifty Kilometers, every day, cattle tending, farming and what have you?) were suppressed on the basis of the gender, caste, creed, colour, etc., Reservations are very essential. Till an element of equality is achieved among all sections of the Soceity, such reservations should be continued. As for the Western Soceities being liberal towards women, if you know when their women folk were granted voting rights, you would also know how modern they have been. An assured percentage of 33% of Women in the Legislatures would definitely address theis gender bias agaisnt the women, who constitute over 50% of our population, which lot include Mothers, Sisters & Wives of every one of us.

yes,i do support this view because women require support. most of the indian women are from villages and are not given proper education.at least if there is such an act passed by,definitely, there will be improvement in the status of a women in our society.

Mrs Smita, your reasons are much vaild regd the women reseravation quota, but the whole reservation system damages the of growth public sector companies. The Govt can provide better facilities to women/ backward clasess till their education and development, and the reservation system divides the people and it leads to EGO's. The One Trillion dollar economy needs the better youth who can participate in research and takes the country ahead. From past 20 years we are in developing phase, the reservation system should transfer to the catetgory of BPL (Below Poverty Line) population in the country, i hope u understand being a corporate. Eradication of poverty and uplifting the poor leads to healthier growth of the country. This can be done only by recruiting better talented crowd, who are really eligible and not by the reseravation system.

Atleast an open mandate is given. This certainly boost up their morale. Its time to understand that this dormant energy needs to be waken up to profit the society. No longer they are subdued. Bid opposition will be there like when you allow reservation to SC/ST, BUT ULTIMATELY IT WILL FETCH RESULTS.

yes. evenafter tabling after 15yearswe have an arguement which shows How man`s musle power is greater than women`s will power. Now also The unruly musle power is not at all willing toshare thier office with thier mothers. They need the people for voting onlynot to share their office. Most of the politician wont get seat or elected infuture so only they are opposing the bills. Brittish ruled INDIA with less than 25000 British soldiers. They maintain one policy,`DIVIDE AND RULE~Our politiciations know that very well, using caste and religion slogans they are delaying the oppurtunity of poor people.

As women are perceived less corrupt, this will be a good step. Though there is a need to check that unqualified candidate shouldn't be on responsible place. After some amendments this proposal is uplifting not only women but our country too.

yes the bill will improve the fair gender's presence in politics but upliftment of poor or common woman is doubtful. because, not a man but a woman herself is against another woman .

Dear Mr Kazmi, Whence, lack of change of position threatens to cause thrombosis it is only advisable to try stand up or at least change posture. Let us hope this change brings some good. In any case it is generally believed women are less corrupt, have higher levels of patience and are surely more caring.

Soorain ji, Just because the odds are over burdening should one stop making an effort. While it may be true that men may try to remote control those elected yet do we have another way especially when society at large is not ready to change with rapidity that you would like them to. It is said beyond a point nothing can dip further and can only rise up, let us believe this is the point and with passage of this bill some changes may start to happen. In any case a person who stumbles once, twice or severally, does not stop walking. Let's support whole heartedly whoever is making this effort.

It is not quite man should always chauvinist, gender bios may be considered as crime even. It is better to live with opposite sex with dignity and equality. Disparity mind is a perverted mind which leads to suppressing the other gender, I am confident that, if the Bill is passed all old dogs in the parliament chairs will be kicked off. New blood of admin and execution will enter into Indian Parliament.

The women reservation bill will not only improve the capabilities of women, it will support the growth of the country also. Simply look at a home were the head of the family (father) brings the means for the well being of the family and the mother manages the house with fathers supervision. We can see such houses and families are growing with good morals and values. Same way let our men find the means and resources for the country and the women manage with the proper guidelines.

The constitution assures women equal rights; in fact reservation in effect is only down grading them. Bill or no bill, the oppressors and chauvinists will continue to keep the Dalits and women suppressed. None theless, hope the government will be able to get the bill passed. In today's fiasco, BJP seems to be the most happiest, with their home work went well according to plan, which is evident from their well prepared strategy in quickly grabbing the opportunity and use it as a multi-edged sword; in thier uniform rhetoric to capture women votes with vociferous outward support of the bill on one side, and do everything inwardly to prevent the bill going through so that they can put the Congress in a major political fix, in both houses of the parliament, and also to paint them as insincere about the bill, on the other side. Is it not astonishing, how every BJP MPs have suddently become very saintly and nice disciplined parliamentarians overnight? It is but natural that Congress would be very careful of BJP's offer of support, because in all probability BJP would stage a walk out on some pretext when a division becomes necessary and the bill is likely to pass. Again is it not funny that the spokespersons of BJP think the general public are fools not to discern what is happening? Many of us expected better sense from BJP with a person like Mr. Gadkare happening to be at the top?? In the whole game, invariably every party seems to be interested to getting some political mileage at the cost of the oppressed, women included.

Kiran, your very reason that we make records in quotas, is my reason of supporting it. Politicians are so apt in playing quota politics, that they are now bearing it in the form of women quota. Typical politicians like Lalu Yadav will have their wife, sister, or daughter fight the elections in their name but things will change for sure. More women in politics will mean greater accountability from the very politician who will play proxy or even otherwise. We need youth and women to replace lazy politicians and lack of political will on important issues.

Mr Kiran, how much do you expect women to raise when the whole society is dominated by men? You talk a lot about women raising on their own merit. But have you seen majority of girls in India can even get proper education and freedom to do of their own will because of rules and regulations set by men. In the past 60 years, in every field, men were preferred more than women, may be its a childbirth in home or a top positioned government job. In spite of all this restrictions, women today have managed to get their identity in the society because of their own merit. But still, there are thousands of women, who cannot even dream of this kind of step because of men suppression. To uplift their condition, if we demand a little less than 10% reservation, whats wrong in it? We are asking for a small part.

In Real, all depends on the stout and intact decision. Who ever it may be, Women or Men. If that Authority has strong will power to accomplish the decision into reality through implementation than its good. Its no matter, Women can lead but in a country like India the culture is different. Though if God gifts us than obviously Women can change a lot like Rani Laxmi Bai.

Women reservation bill are tabled by political parties like Congress, BJP and left. First of all i like to ask do these parties have inner will to pass this bill. If yes then they should first declare whether they have implemented this rule in their political organisation. Second I like to ask whom they are trying to lift, womens who are relative of muscle powered, money powered males or general women. If they really like to support general women why dont they agree with SP, JD(U) and RJD suggestion to launch reservation for minor sections in the bill. (Ill intention remains there as this will hamper their hidden interest) Third Have these political parties made any enquiry on the existing local body women representative whether they are really capable of Pseudo forces are working behind the women face. I support reservations but for a better balanced improvement and upliftment of a section, not ulifting an already uplifted person. Thanks and Jai Hind Santosh Sinha

End of the day its depends on individual doesnt matter its male/ female. We have the home minister as a lady, but I dont think she is doing justice to her Job. Most of them are the wives / sisters / mothers of other politicians who are only grabbing as much as they can. There will be no impact until there is a major change in politics.

it is impossible on reason to deny that reservation do help to bring weak in the mainstream but i m amazed that why does reservation in India are started from the top institutions...that is like giving water to leaf rather than to the roots. However in case of women reservation there is reservation already at the third tier but it is a fact that this has failed to give the desired result. The better course would be to analyse and strenghten the reservation policy at this level and then provide for the same in the parliament.

Has the election / selection of 700+ Indian parliamentarians and scores of Indian legislators made any difference to the life of Indians? So how can the election of more women make a difference to Indian women... It's a political stunt and if the bill is passed then more women from political families will get elected and occupy seats that should deservedly go to popular women candidates.

It has been 15 years or more when the Woman's reservation bill was first discussed and a great deal has been said; praised by some, criticised by many. A section even believed that it would empower women and was a matter of pride. Personally, I think that the question we should ask is, Do we need such a bill? And How do we achieve it, within the constraints of democracy? We still live in a culture it where men who take most of the decisions, women being mere proxies. One reason why women are so under-represented is because they have their family responsibilities. There is no constraint for women to fight. Worldwide, female representation in the boardrooms is also extremely low despite good ratios at lower levels. Is the bill gong to bring about a change? Yes, lt sounds magnificent empowering women in a society where Social status and rank of women has been austere for centuries. Like someone said, such reservations could reduce merit. Wives, daughters, mothers, daughters-in-laws of politicians could end up running the show. One only hopes, it is not misused? Let us remember that Reservations are not a cure-all and mere reservation is not going to solve everything. such reservations could reduce merit. As it has been happening, in the past, wives, daughters, mothers, daughters-in-laws of politicians could be running the show. Another option is that a certain tickets from political parties are reserved for women. The counter-argument given to this suggestion is that women shall be given only losing seats. Matrch 8 is the centenary of International Women's Day. It would be a gift to the women of India, if year a historic legislation is introduced and passed, There is an old saying, when you educate a man you educate an individual when you educate a woman you educate a whole family. However, reservation is an easy shortcut. Without proper backup steps, it is unlikely to make any significant impact. Happy Woman's Day

definetly it makes a change, but that is not even good for the women also. change is required in the way the society treating them then only it may gives some benefit to them otherwise it is also some other quota like so many already existing in india..

This could me yet another bill (may be without implementation). In Indian constitution, there are different bill for the welfare of woman. I hope, hardly few of them are in implementation stage. The basic requirement to implement any bill for the welfare of women requires physiological change of the people. All the people should implement the bills or rules on their own, then only welfare of the women is possible. I hope there may not be any changes with the current bill.
