Increasing the status of economic backward class people will contribute to increase private final consumption of the country. Thus it will increase GDP in long run.

GDP= Gross consumption+Investment+Government expenditure+Net Exports.

This implies that investment in the social sector will uplift their standard of living. Improved standard of living will increase the pecapita consumption. Increase in consumption will lead to increase in GDP

I don’t know much about this topic .

Have heard that due to the multiplier effect a small change in government spending results in a bigger change in the GDP. Again it is the public who is funding the exchequer. I think a hike in social sector spending will favour economically backward and rich will be taxed more.

Yes Alok in a long term approach it will do really good for the country's GDP is concerned if the BPL and others things are taken care of and the move by the UPA government is most welcome and one may not see the results now itself, but in the longer run sure it has its many advantages....
