The pre-eminence of the US economy and of economic policies identified with the US and the UK have been challenged by the crisis. On the other hand, Asian economies, even though they are dependent on the US economy, have been less impacted by the crisis. Asia appears to be recovering sooner than the rest, and is maintaining high growth, especially in China and India. Asia has its own unique features of macro-economic management, and these are being favourably assessed. However,  the innovation in banking must be oriented toward systems (new standards of dialogue and interoperability), and toward the competitive production of intellectual property.  Will there be increased differentiation between banks’ strategies  after the crisis?

In my opinion, in a market structurally reducing rate spreads benefiting banks, the extraction of value will have to focus away from the interest rate and toward the provision of services. Information technology, a fundamental lever of banking innovation, could well become a major source of intellectual property, until now almost completely absent in traditional banking.

I think retail banks has its strategies relating to their objectives. The yearly addition to the workforce in financial market has been huge and standards of living is improving. The culture of savings in Asia has  provided capital to match growth in supply of labour. A huge demand will be generated by the growing new middle class of Asia.
