Will Wi-Fi hot spots survive WiMax and 3G?

Can Wi-Fi hot spots in public places such as coffee shops and airports survive the onslaught of ubiquitous wireless access? And if they do survive, how will they change?

I feel hot spots will survive as 3G is still expensive, and WiMax clearly will take some time. Hot spots services will be different in the future than they are now because of how we access the Internet while mobile, and what we access, will soon start to change in India. What a lot of Wi-Fi brands can do is offer an enhanced customer experience that is localized e.g. like in restaurants customers can download music & games.

Ok this is simple. Wimax and 3G are both licensed bands, expensive. Where wifi is somewhat free to extreemly low cost to deploy. Wifi will continue as Wimax is expanded, since the cost and infrastructure is already there for hotspots and not for Wimax (yet)

Hi, I feel at current technologies in India, WiMAX is at fixed stage, Mobile WiMAX is under testing and spectrum issues is also there, the penetration level at fixed wimax is not so strong to overcome wifi, thus a fixed wimax sytem may futher be used for setting up a Wi-Fi hotspot.

It will take Years time or more to get mobile wimax in place to wipe out wifi hotspots.
