I think we can wait for another 2-3 months to see the performace. We can't say that win7 is very good and it is now time to say good bye to XP. The value of XP since 10 year is very high which can not be compared with win7 with in one month of the Launch. We have to see all the feature and then we can compare with xp. As far as the security is concern I hope it is more secure than xp. But the main point we have to see is how USER FRIENDLY is Win7, thats the main point which people like.

Me personally, is a regular user of Windows 7 and expect other people who are surrounded with the Xp myth to just use it once. I most of the time use to pen different technical issues in toostep, and seriously observing the cool and highly sophisticated features of Windows 7. I hope in near future to write some article on Windows 7. I would never turn back to XP any more. I owe my gratitude to XP but 7 is far more better. I cannt explain people like them who are not willing to migrate but can expect to just take a trial foe 3 months hands on work with 7 and can bet you r not going back to your xp city any more. Come on 7 city is glorious and citizenship is available.......

os win 7 is easy to operate. And those who says that it is difficult , it is just because they are not used to it. win 7 is as easy as win xp. And m saying this because I've worked on both. In fact, win 7 has more advance features and I find it more user friendly.

I agree that win xp is very easy. But those who are saying that win 7 is difficult, are wrong. the only matter is that they are not used to it. In my opinion win 7 is very easy to operate. I've installed win xp and win 7 both. And I prefer using win 7. Because it's fast, simple and more secure.

Dear Friend, I think Windows 7 will be very successful as compared to Windows XP. You know what.., it includes all the advance and HD Audio Video and also faster then linux......the main thing in this is virtualization with Windows 7 to Windows 7 and with MS Windows Server 2008 R2. You can access your server from anywhere in the world by just single dedicated/live IP Address. The requirment of VPN is zero. Only thing you will have to get faster internet everywhere. Cheers please give big hand for success for windows 7....that will be faster than success of Windows XP

Long time now with XP. We need auto defrag, Capitalize on all cores and processors, No driver issues, Better and faster system restores, Stream my audio/video to other pc/tv, Yet still run with affordable hardware...Win 7 a highly perfected Vista and more to it. Enterprises have right time to migrate to Win7 and hope no Corporates would disable "Themes" service this time as in XP. Yes we all are looking around the corner for Win7 in Corporates and Enterprises.

Windows 7 has eradicated the problems in Windows Vista. It is much faster, much more reliable and has much more support for various programs. The only problem is that it's still not running Turbo C++ in full screen mode. Hence Windows XP is still on the better side. But overall this OS is Wonderfull.

I have installed and tested the RC of Windows 7. It seems to be more responsive than Vista and certainly more appealing and feature rich that XP. Also, it has compatibility mode for applications that need legacy operating systems and hence more useful for running software. IMO, Windows 7 will not only be able to match the success of XP but also surpass it.

I think no one can win the race of an OS with only Eye candy ,proper ITIL must be there ,related to both sales & service ,although some hardware requirement analysis will make windows 7 failure ,cause it is not supporting some of the hardwares of Intel 845-865 series ,but it is part of PDLC ,I support Windows 7...

It is human nature to resist changes but who wants to stay behind when Technologies stepping into new era (64 bit)? When windows XP was launched people have some views over the OS. It took XP some service packs to get better to serve people's needs. It took some time for XP to grow up on people. Windows Vista was launched in heist with lot of incomplete features, but it is also true that it has provided 64bit platform for coming OS. Windows 7 is an outcome of the lessons learnt from Windows XP and Windows Vista. It may take some Service Packs to make it better. Windows XP has done its job in 32bit era. Now it’s time to move forward to 64bit world that is waiting for lots of new Technologies. The time has come to bid farewell to our beloved OS Windows XP. Whether one like it or not! He/she has to keep up with the coming Technologies.

XP was released at a time where the hardware updates were not so rapid. It gained fast acceptance because it ws stable as compared to the available 98 and 2000. Now, if u look at the kind speed at which hardware updates are released, theres not gonna be nethin stable lik we had – say 4 yrs bk. XP required very low graphics n RAM. The other requirements were also on par with the time at which it ws released. However, now people who r so used to XP are not willing to shift – be it a better system or worse. Thats the reason VISTA didn’t make it. People who hav nevr used Win 7 or Vista – on a compatible system which meets the hardware n software requirements hav no right to comment on whether it is good or bad. I would suggest u use atleast 3-4 Operating Systems on a good PC which meets all the requirements n with compatible updated softwares and then comment on whether the new OS is good or bad. Till then, it would be an empty opinion not backed with first hand experience. I personally hav used 2 linuxes, win 98, 2000, XP, vista, Mac OS X. And now am using Win 7. N lemme tll u, this one is the best tht we hav, atleast for the PC. No comments for the IMAC.

yes and no.XP ws successful because of its wide applicability and low resource usage. the time when xp ws released demanded that. as opposed to tht, now we r seeing a very fast growth in the resources available, but we r not very open to change, if that attitude changes or win 7 is accepted by the masses then it has the potential to be successful. i hav used it myself, it worked for me... dosent mean everyone has to agree.... use it n then complain. one more request - dont comment unless u hav used more then 3-4 Operating Systems, because only after that u'll be able to judge the difference. People who hav used only XP n 98/2000 shd first try out the rest of the available options for atleast a month each - tht too on compatible systems with recommended resources with each 32/64 bit programs. then it would be fair to complain abt win 7... till then, u r just an outdated XP user.

every GUI has its own strengths and drawbacks. windows 98 had and was rectified to some extent with the launching of XP. Vista Home being absolutely a mediocre and learners' product I personally like working on Vista Business. As an engineer by profession I find Vista business can support high profile engineering softwares like STTAD or SAP or AutoCAD. Hope in Windows 7 they have improvised over Vista business even. A software is an intellectual product and outcome of extensive continuous research. I personally feel it should be better than Vista Business also.

Windows 7 is futurisitic product. Its a move to replace or rather shadow the bugs on Vista OS. I think Microsoft did a good job on Windows 7. Remember we are moving to 64 bit technology and windows 7 in inline with that. Also Microsoft is come up with Windows server 2008 which is again Awsome.

Windows 7 has great user rich experience stories and a faster OS with self-controlled utilities. No doubt it can overrule XP market.. just as we have been doing it since Windows 3.0..!! I believe YES, it can be a success over XP, but nobody knows we might have a better OS than this..!!! All eyes on Google..!!

Yes it has a mixed features of all that are found in XP and Vista and piracy checking has been kept to the highest. Therefore I think it will best for the Software industries. But it requires a high system requirements for its installation. That will be a drawback!!!!!!! and it can't be compared with XP which will lead overall..... but in appearance it is cool and we'll not feel bored to work in its environment.

Yes, if it is a user friendly………. Coz many of us are only users to the computer but not the professionals who can play with the computer. Literate of computers and computer professionals both are totally different. For professionals they can even enjoy Vista but for users it’s really a much difficult. So the more concentration towards the user’s coz they are the more in percentage rather than professionals. If users really enjoying it then definitely this is the time to say bubye to XP.

We all should agree to the fact that for any product - it takes time to settle in the market followed by users publiicity , Given Microsoft's Windows 7 I think it will also need time - as what i have experienced is that it has a Vista Interface - which itself was quite confusing at times but one will get used to if one begins to use it wisely (as one learns Driving ) , but performace and reliablity wise windows 7 has an edge & will thrill the new generation users who can easily adapt to new technologies.

Any new OS comes with latest features which were not in the previous versions. Windows 7 also posses many features which makes the works of the user very easy. I personally have worked on Windows 7 and have experienced its very safe, easy to work with, interesting and fun!!! It will definitely become as popular as Windows XP.

Prathana, if you go back to history, the Windows 95 was the most successful OS for end user. Windows 98, a variant of Windows 95 with inbuilt IE was liked by end users. Many other OS came in between but failed to catch the market share. And then, on same concept, Windows XP came, the success story even you know. Windows Vista was not a great success for many reasons. Windows 7 is modified on the learning from Vista. So it is going to rock.. :-)

Any new OS will take a while to settle and know the features of being user friendlty. We people are so used to Windows XP that we don't look beyound most of the time. The Windows 7 is far better and robust in terms of OS. It is user and application friendly. Initially people will face a little problem but later it will rock as Windows XP success.

Ofcous not, bcoz XP got long time in market and cover all about 5 years without any OS from Windows, and when Vista launched it was the biggest failure and Windows loses some good percentage and Open source OS try to capture the market, Vista launches in 2006 and Windows 7 launches in 2009 and, still there are many players who wants to beat Microsoft. Overall Windows 7 has more better features from XP and from security point of view it is far better than XP, but sometimes Microsoft compete with its own products, it eats its own dog food. We got bad review of Windows Vista, but Windows 7 has overcome all these and it will again capture some percentage, lets see.

There was win98, there was then winXP and then there was the longHorn that never came out and then a disaster called vista. Xp has by far been the best from them. Xp is best as it is apt with resource utilization and ease and simplicity of use and ample customization. I bought a laptop that came with Vista. But I installed XP though that meant loss of warranty. That is how much worth XP isI particularly dislike the windows explorer in vista/win7. The explorer that we have on XP is just what I want. Vista was a burden, and I would say win7 (I tried the RC, by the way) is a little less burdensome but yet needs too much of resources. There is a lot that is unnecessary. Another thing that puts me off is the missing keyboard shortcuts. win u u would shut down my pc in XP. I'd have to use the mouse in Vista/win7. Why make things complicated? I'm not going to give in to flashy graphics and the unproductive/unnecessary aero effect. Its only for a few weeks I'd be amused at the looks. I know it'd fade away soon. I'm happy using XP, I've recently started using Ubuntu, i like them both and I dont see much of a reason why win7. Cheers!

I hope things have drastically changed from the RC to the actual release. The little experience I've had with win7 was not good. I had the same problem with "unidentified network" as I did with vista and I tried installing a printer and was told by win7 that it could not find the drivers for my "CD/DVD drive" I just laughed and shook my head because I was installing a USB HP printer, not a DVD drive. Also they continue with the vista graphics which are a unnecessary recourse hog. The only people I know who like vista or 7 are just enamored with the pretty desktop and the fact that it is new. These are the same people that have to call me to fix there pretty things when it craps out on them. XP was and still is the IT and Office Professionals OS as far as I'm concerned. Vista and 7 are for people who don't know any better and think pretty is better.

I agree with Kiran. A new OS becomes popular in the beginning only because of its graphic design. The actual work comes out in the long run. XP, which is so strong and secured, also needed 3 different editions to come out since, repeated upgradations in the same OS, would have made it necessary for daily upgradation thus making it unsafe from viruses. Windows 7 just came out and its obvious that still lot of upgradations are necessary in it. If it is destined to become better than XP, that will happen after launching of 3-4 more editions of it or else continuous upgradation would be necessary resulting in necessity of having daily updates like Vista does...

I don't agree with the statement that every new OS is better than the previous one. Even Windows Vista was launched after Windows XP. But it was not as "easy to work with" as Windows XP was. Rather it was more complicated, and unsafe from viruses. Still Microsoft launched updated versions of Vista which still needs daily updates. Thus Windows 7 also will be of the same category. It has just been launched so it is obvious that it won't be having so much facilities. Microsoft will need to update many things in it which, in turn will result in requirement of daily updates...
