It has become a style statement in the HR community that women need to achive work life balance. I read a very interesting article by Jack Welch that it is not possible to achive such a balance. Women have to sacrifice one for another at some point in time, either willingly or unwillingly. I fully agree with him and conclude that only one thing can be done at a time. Also believe that even industry agrees to it and hence  there are hardly any meaningful jobs created for such a large pool of skilled unemployed. Although there are very few meaningful work from home opportunities, rest are just crap

Yes Laxmi, you are right. For a woman, managing both the things becomes very tough. She has to sacrifice some or other thing in the long run....

Ifs and buts are there in life, if we organize/plan/prioritize our tasks, am sure whether it is Men/Women, we will find the balance end of the day, I do agree there have been instances when you will have the last minute surprises, things might go out of control, or some thing unexpected has happen, one important thing during such situations rather than asking why me, let us add a pls.smile and say, come on let me finish this task, everything will be fine. Always eye on the end result, am sure positive turns out.

I do agree 10-15 yrs back, women did find it difficult to balance work life, hence they became complacent, but today, we as women are able to delegate the tasks to men at home, am sure they have been supportive too.

Dear Lakshmi, imbalance is there, but let us add the weight to the other side and balance the Life and Managing tasks well will yield benefits.

Though women have to take care of their family, they can achieve the worklife balance. There are many more examples for this. There are certain sectors of industries, you can see lot of women are appointed. Like banks, government sectors, LIC's etc. They are all managing the worklife balance and working till their retirement.

Now a days, the spouse also started sharing the work load at home, sure women can achieve the work - life balance, but to see it virtually, it takes some time.

Regards,

Umesh.S

I believe women can maintain a balance between married and work life but yes it also depends on what function she is working. E.g. If a women is in field job then definitely its a challenge but in case shes working in HR then she should not have much of a trouble and HR work even compliments the gender.

When the case working women is concerned the work life balance is disturbed when she is single. Other wise there is husband to share the domestic chores to achieve the work life balance. Most of the companies are offering maternity and paternity leaves also to the Married couples as well as singles to achieve the objective in an effective mananer. Some compnies are offering flexi working hours also.To achive the work life balance is not impossible. It May be little difficult.

Hi Everyone ,i believe that yes definitely it is difficult for a women to strike a balance between professional and personal life but same is the case for men.

Work balance is not that difficult for women, if and only if her family is supportive and understands that along with successful personal life she wants to succeed in professional world too.

I don't think so, during this times and in such a fast track corporate world, everybody has to manage themselves. One should learn how to do work life balance.

In the beginning everybody faces problem. Even males have family responsibility but there is no problem in managing both the things. Many of my lady colleagues can also manage both the responsibilities very nicely. I believe a good manager will face no problem in managing both his home and work life at a time. One has to do for survival at least.
