I dont find anything in islam which I will regard as outdated. In islam women are given equal rights. We should not look at the muslims who themselves dont know anything about islam or what muslims are doing world over. We should see the scripture which is Quran and sayings of Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him).

My opinion could be placed under either side of the debate.

Unfortunately, the debate is out of balance. We are not in a position to debate about religious issues like that. Religions are out there and everyone has the freedom to choose the most convincing one. Once chosen, we cannot debate about the specifics of the religion. It is either take it in FULL or leave it in FULL. My opinion applies to ALL religions, not only Islam.

I definitely agree with you wasim. If we leave those muslims who don't know even the meaning of Islam and try to do what they want to do in the name of islam, we have people who are encouraging and giving equal rights to women and this can also be proved by seeing the growth of islamic women in each and every field.

There is something wrong in our debate, let us not use ISLAM, ISLAM is also a religion which purely advocatespeace, it is some of MUSLIMS who are either tarnishing the image of ISLAM or baking in the name of ISLAM and as for as the right for women are concerned, why do we need separate legislation, rights, reservation when we are talking of equality on the other hand, the religion whichever it may be, has nothing to do with it, it is only the dirty mindset of the people which need to be transformed??

Having read first comment, i was bit confused before writing, but my concious allowed me do so reason recently so called redical islamists i have seen on TV regarding treatment of woman in Afganistan, Pakistan which indeed was horrible goes without any protest of so... if that is ISALM it is surely outdated... or if people who are executing those brutalities are not following ISLAM then voice against it..... still orthodexism can not be ruled out i think

I would say that still there is a lot of work to do in the upliftment of muslim women. In most of the islamic countries they are still treated as inferior to men.....I don't know what is the reason but I think that if islamic women themselves will not demand their rights and come out of the shadow of their opposite sex then they wouldn't be able to live independenly in the society.....I firmly believe that if one doesn't get his rights then it should be snatched and get what they deserve.
