@darshana will reservation change the centure old social attitude of the society ? It is this that we need to change and i see no step taken in this direction. It is time we accept women as equals actually not accepting this fact is the biggest mistake men make. I would to see a strong and defiant women leader in parliament who is voted by majority.

Womens' reservation will only propel incompetant women into the decision making arena. They will be puppets in the hands of shrewd politicians who will use them to their advantage to execute evil designs against the common man. The elite, eminent and worthy women are free to push themselves in society and help building the nation by coming forward in administrative services, education, NGO's and numerous other ways. They will get much better support from the majority of men in all their endeavours.

I am against any kind of reservations on caste or on gender. I posted a write up on the subject way back in 2009/10. Those who want can visit this link http://www.indyarocks.com/blogs/blog_visiterview_main.php?id=75198 . When they are capable enough why do they need reservations. My perception on the reservations is we are promoting the most incapable with reservations and spoiling the country.

Till date lots of reservation have been floated from Indian Govt. in various levels but really speaking these reservations have shown path for discrimination & split up and the output of all aspects are getting enjoyed by the beurocrates & politicians. Today this reservation, tomorrow the other reservation & day after tomorrow the third reservation.... why so? Hope these discriminators have lots of time for split up and enjoy....why no body is really thinking for Good Binding Forces and Better Development of India which would be Free from all malpractices which is really stopping the development of India. Until & unless these worst practices of reservation are aboloished no body could even think for betterment of our country "INDIA".

Ok, If reservation but at how many places & for how many times. Bus,rail, airport, job, even on petrol pumps also women requires reservation Its stupid & funny concept.

@ Darshana : Not every problem in this country is going to be solved by reservation... at least this has been emphatically proven in the last 60 years of independence. I do agree as a country we are lagging behind in woman empowerment India ranks a pathetic 114 out of 134 countries according to Global Gender Gap Report by World economic forum but their are better ways to achieve it. A small example : Bihar has put two schemes for women empowerment: 1. 50% reservation to women in panchayat :In most of the cases even now their husbands make all decisions. 2. Cycles to all school going girls :It has 90% success rate as Nitish Kumar told at NDTV and I think this is a far better way to bring them to main stream. These ebullient and bright ladies full of self esteem are futures of INDIA. We cannot just provide reservation and sit back... instead we should find the bottlenecks they are facing and try to remove them from society.

Reservations on caste basis, religion basis, gender basis, regional basis why all these are required at all. What has the reservations have done so far is there any improvement for the general masses of the reserved classes. Today women reservation, then neuter gender reservation, homo reservation so on there is no end to it. There should be effort for the development of these people definitely but not reservations.

@Darshana : To be seen as someone's mother, daughter or wife : what is wrong with that ? Of course a lot depends upon who we are speaking about. Does anyone know the name of Sheila Dixit's husband ? How many of us know the name of Saina Nehwal's father and Madhuri Dixit's son ? No reservation is needed anywhere. Women today are very smart and a gender based reservation only helps perpetuate discrimination.

firstly please take this debate positively.
Do we need women reservation bill to tell everyone that we respect women. If yes then I don't agree. This shows that we aren't ready. Reservation on such cases are used in Developed nations but doesn't it show that the population of the country isn't ready to accept woman in main stream,so to escape the liberals we'll put compulsory reservations? Doesn't this prove that our thinking is still centuries old ?
For me an Elected women representative without reservation is an candidate accepted by masses.

Yes I agree with you. The social life & culture of India is not very much conducive for woman's employment in organizations either be it governmental or private corporate body. This step will enhance visibility of woman occupying positions & invite them more to participate in contest for growing in organization. Means that this will certainly pave a way for their social up-lift.

Very true. They do not want able women to come in large numbers and oppose their evil designs. That is why one national party leader wants women of reserved sections and poor sections to be given preference in assembly seats. They can then use them as puppets to fulfil their dreams..

I am supporting all the activities where women is appriciated. Women reservation is a step for that. In my personal view " Helping hand is always better than lips who prayer for us". And the Women Reservation is just doing same as Helping hand. By this we can bring women in main stream.

Dear Darshana, do we really feel that by providing reservation to anyone irrespective of caste, creed or gender is going to solvee the problem per se.We really need to evolve into a society where we can understand & shoould be very much ready to accept every one as a human being before his/her caste or gender.Being a human everyone has ambition and right to excel in his or her life in terms of education, career & living standard. Can we accept these facts by implementing any kind of legal reservation.I may be wrong but we need to change mindset......

Politicians will never make it happen. Those who are established or veterons in the field have never accepted the same and have been seen shouting and protesting against the same. First let the garbage be cleared from the scene then only a positive approach can be expected.

Thanks Darshana for referral. Yes the reservation for women needed particularly in our country where as on date the women are treated only second to men so let the reservation be a stepping stone on the right direction in this male dominated country.

Women take the major responsibilities in maintaining the home & family, which however is not considered a mainstream occupation. However, this service is absolutely essential for proper development of society and hence women should be encouraged (if not given incentive) to be more participative in social policies, an outcome of national politics.
