I do believe that there is no harm in trying out anything that boosts productivity of the workers. Sometimes, trying new ideas will bring positive results, sometimes it may not.

I think yes, they should allow, I mean here they should accept the fact that the whole world is joined together now with the help of social networking, and complete business scenario has changed, now everything is in clicks and not bricks anymore, and with constant feeds and many real time applications, people are hooked upto these sites, and than making it harder for employees, they are making it more easier and comfortable and also making sure that productivity is on the rise. Its good that employers are in sync with recent happenings and taking necessary actions in that regard. According to me there should be some thing like social media policy in organizations from now on. What do you think people?

A big NO in bolds capitals as you need to be focused on your work changes like these would be distraction at work..n the discussions would continue even after 10 mins..n i bet those 10 mins wouldn't take long to be 20 by workers if implemented..Huh

Asoke sir, You said it. I cant understand why in India people are considering these types of activities as their previlage in working hours. As you said there is no real working culture.Apart from this, I surprised to see that people are not able to keep the office timings and cursing about traffic jam eventhough they know that everyday it is the same

For an Indian worker .. working in India ... pls allow Mon to Fri for Facebook etc. S/ he may spare some time for office work on some a Saturday/ one or two. Here, we were/ are basically an agro country. Some just two or three generations back, our fore-fathers were agriculturists. They wanted a 'nap' in the afternoon - used to work only when necessary. Here, we dont know what is 'work' and what is "Work Culture". Recent boon in IT, BPO and ITES etc have bring us to the lime-light. We treat office as our home Drawing-room and discuss whatever comes in our mind. For social status, in recent, we have Home-computers but dont touch it when return home .. just feel exhausted for hard-work ( if were sensible, this machine in home was idle for FaceBooks .... away from work, relaxed and spared for very private hrs ). Sir/s, 10 mnts per day for FaceBook etc. is too littel for us, Indians.

I don't see any value addition that would happen if any employee accessess facebook ( or for that matter any social networking & mail site) for 10 min. Why an employee needs 10 min from his office timing which cannot be done after office hours at leisure from home & at length. Also I am not of the opinion that Indians ( presently ) are so socially starved that 10 min would make huge difference in their social lives. Time to get professional!!!

Firstly a company should know who are the people actually for whom this break is meant and they will come out with the findings that its for those who are a sort of addicted to social networking sites. and now imagine just 10 minutes break for an addictor? had they been using these networking sites for 10 mintues there would not be so much impact on work but the fact of the matter is they spend much more time on them . so just 10 minutes break........its very less..

Several times I have tried to take a facebook break keeping in mind "only for 30 mnts" but could never leave the computer before n hour. That what the addiction of social networking sites are. If companies allow these type of breaks. It will rather effect negatively in their business.

I don't think this will bring much difference. Sites like Facebook and Orkut are complete addiction. Anybody spending most of his time here means he is addicted. So, merely 10 minutes won't make much difference....
