A unified electronic ID card system could make it mush easier and more efficient for governments and companies to interact and perform transactions. This would cut administrative costs substantially.

The importance of a Common Identity Card is understood in the remote areas where it becomes difficult to identify whether a person standing in front is an Indian or some infiltrator who has infiltrated our border with some nefarious design. System of such a smart card with identity details will considerably reduce the problems of security forces.

THe ID will be especially important for rural people. It will help them in getting an identification which will be useful in getting loans, jobs etc. Multiple identification tools like - ration card, voters card, passport will be done away with single ID number

I agree with Ajay. The UID is very much necessary in today's world.

The UID is a neccessity. The Card is the carrier. The question is the Cost of the Card!

In today's world of Public Private Partnership and multiple ASP/BOO/BOOT/etc based financial models - the cost cannot be a hindrance.

The ID card project is a matter of identity. Its economic importance lies in the fact that the card project will ensure streamlining of resources to correct beneficiaries, prevents wastage, better estimations of resources to be pumped to a target audience, and finally ensure that benefits reach as intended. This will create the best economics.

In fact National ID is very much necessary in our huge country, as passport, driving licenses, Medical Card, PAN Card, KYC, Insurance Cards, Bank Accounts, Credit Cards etc..etc.... services has to be linked electronically with it. It can gradually replace PAN Card, KYC, Medical Card, Insurance Card etc... and can be a powerful identification tool for a National which can be used nationwide. It will be economically sound to introduce it PROVIDED government uses it effectively. TN Seshan had started Voters National ID Card but it was not effectively handled by Govt, and failed drastically with huge expenditure on it going absoulutly waste!!

Access documentation such as driver's licenses, passport, or Medicare card serve a similar function on a more limited scale, and thus an ID card is not needed.

agree with Mr. Aditya's comment here, one should reflect why it happened in the first place and then rectify it, just by saying sorry the problem will not be solved, then it would become a habit of saying sorry and doing nothing.
