After the release of source code for Google Chrome operating system to developers, Microsoft’s Windows 7 has grown competition from Google. However, Google will launch the stable release in the second half of 2010 for netbooks.

Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Whereas, Windows 7 can handle designers’ requirement and Apple’s Snow Leopard can have an edge over other operating systems for handling daily routine works.

But, the question is would Windows 7 dominate over Chrome OS ?

Microsoft Windows 7 comes with a renovated Windows Shell with a new taskbar, updated control panel interface, slideshow for the opened windows, start menu and window management enhancements and an advanced font management. It supports the DirectX 11 version, multi-touch facility for Tablet PCs, WWAN and has enhanced security features. Also, the software features Office Open XML and ODF support in WordPad, Windows Media Player 12 and Windows XP Mode. It comes with faster boot time compared to Vista. It is also available in an affordable price range of $120 to $320. With so many features, I think Microsoft windows 7 will dominate on Google's Chrome OS

I agree with ambuj. People are used to windows and if at all chrome comes to use it will not be as hit as windows. People will take time or need time to change their perception and accept other os.

because of it's great feature of demanding and applying all features of development and chrome is the one to be developed only for some development activities.

I don't think company that has dominated from 25-30 years in OS segment can loose the grip so easily. Few years before people thought the same when Opensourse Linux etc. came but windows always exists and came out as winner. Microsoft has started with a dream to have PC on each and every desk but google has started with an intention to just beat Microsoft in any possible way.

I tried Chrome OS. All I can say is Chrome OS wont satisfy your performance needs.  It may be useful for novices, kids and business centric people. They too find it irritating for them one day...

Google may make it look like a performance warrior by using their java engine. Well !, the performance not only lies in the superfast java rendering engine but far far things beyond that are there.

I cant accept it boots in 7 secs... They require specific hardware for that thing to be happened. Not even 1% of the users have their specs. If you want to see real booting performance have a look @ Ubuntu 9.10 ( and 10.04 too ).

We see the flop of Vista happened due to the hardware requirements. But unlike vista ( which wanted an additional RAM and a graphics card ), Chrome OS wants you to upgrade your entire computer.

You got the point, right?

I'll support Windows 7.

I agree. Windows 7 is a remake of Windows Vista, but Microsoft quickly understood what went wrong in Vista and I'm happy they did it well. I'm not impressed by it's looks, there are few good looking and slip OSes than Windows 7, but it includes some neat features as well.

It's actually too earlier to say anything about Google Chrome, but I will continue using Windows 7 at-least for next year. I like linux and second partition is reserved for it on my computers. We cannot forget Microsoft Windows will continue to have virus issues.

Windows 7 is easy to use for Desktop users in office environment.

windows 7 has major advantages :

People are highly accustomed to windows. People cant adapt to google OS that fast.

windows is tested over such a long period of time for errors so is more reliable.

Windows has tieups with software firms which will make platforms compatible with windows.

Like Chrome doesnt display sum sites or sum sites ask only for IE for security reasons.

moreover, we are already well versed with windows operating system. So, most of the workplaces will prefer using a W7 more than chrome OS. Not all softwares are tested for chrome, again there are some stability issues, vulnerability is again another issue. So my first preference will be W&, though I am looking forward for chrome OS, since it is open source.

I think this is an unfair comparison to begin with, MSFT & GOOG have different products with differing USP's.

Win 7 is a desktop os with the killer apps like office, Google on the other hand is Web company with an ad based revenue model, Chrome will always be a thin client for Googles services in the cloud.

I think MSFT has hugew advantages in terms of user base, supported applications etc.

Google on the other hand has the cash reserves, with which it is betting that the future is in the cloud.

Now time will be the best judge, which model suceeds but as a end consumer competition among suppliers is alwasy good.

Beyond technology, the real battle is won through marketing muscle. Thats where MS scores more. Rome was not built in a day and its true for MS as well.

Some solid Google related talks are going to happen in March in Bangalore at Spark IT 2010. Visit http://www.ciol.com/sparkIT/2010/inc/agenda.asp

Rome was not built in a day! It holds true for Microsoft. Google has the potential to make sufficient inroads into MS. However, outside the technology area, the real fight boils down to marketing muscle and thats where MS appears to be scoring.

There is going to be a discussion on Google's products very soon at Spark IT 2010 a 2-day conference for IT and Software professionals at Bangalore. See more at http://www.ciol.com/sparkIT/2010/inc/agenda.asp

I don't think so. In Google Chrome OS, a single tab strip combines apps and standard Web pages to save the space of screen. Secondary tasks like chat and music players can be operated through “panels" which may also feature split screens for viewing two pieces of content side-by-side. It HTML 5's offline modes, background processing, and notifications. They are much more easier in cloud computing and all apps in it will be stored in cloud not in users’ netbook. Hence, much storage in your PC is not required. It takes only 7 seconds to boot and is available for free on the net. These facilities makes Chrome OS easier to work from Windows 7 OS

Android is the latest OS but it isn’t as refined as the Blackberry OS. Blackberry is ‘business centric’ whereas Android is more ‘app centric’. So it depends what exactly do you want. For Business oriented people Blackberry will be the king.
