Just hold your breath guys Yamaha will be coming out with mother of all bikes The Yamaha VMAX. The Japanese two wheeler major Yahama on Wednesday launched its super-bike 'VMAX' in the country priced at Rs 20 lakh.  The new VMAX comes with a 1,679 cc engine.

It will be great to watch out this bike sector which is seeing  a lot of activity these days, with many biggies like Harley setting its foot in India and will be rolling out its bikes in India very soon, and team Yamaha are hopeful that these bikes will get the same kind of response their newly launched other products like, FZ series, R15, and Fazer got.

But then its really hard to understand whether Indian people can afford such expensive bikes, when one can easily get a Luxury car with that kind of ammount, may be they(Yamaha & Harley) are targetting hardcore bike lovers who will go for that kind of adrenalin that one gets from these bikes, even with a select contingent being targetted here for this bikes, will it be successfull is one such question that arises. And the other is like, this Yamaha clearly looks like targetting Harley who just a month before came out with news that they are entering Indian market.

What do you think guys, will Yamaha VMAX be able to give stiff competition for Harley Davidson bikes?

It's a Yamaha's marketing strategy again to launch it's super cruise bikes before anyone else makes it's mark in the country. Since Yamaha has a different set of community for such bikes and same goes with Harley.. Both sides Fans are die-hard ones and never compromise on the Brand, the Feel and the TYPE!!

Since Harley is planning to launch it's 1600 to 2200 cc bikes very soon.. this seems to lure such customers who dreamed of Harley before but can have fun with Yamaha for a lesser price and maintanence available around..

But surely the competition remains; no matter what type of customer it attracts!!

Both are very different types and people who understands it's DNA can pay and ride those Horses..!!

Reason why i supported this side is because competition is with every brand..

Yamaha and Harley are both in roadster and heavy cruise manufacturing!!

Even though both the bikes cost a lot, it is specifically targetted for people who go for such adrenalin rush which these bikes give and there are very less people who can afford such bikes in the country, but then i don't think it will affect Harley market, as both the brands are having its own loyal customers and Harley is the most sought out bike across the world for its pure riding pleasure that it gives, and nobody can't beat that. But Yamaha has comeout strongly this year with new models and people are liking what they are seeing from Yamaha, but 20 lakh is a huge amount, may be the price factor will back fire for Yamaha here, if they are able to come up with something lesser price tag will work out for them. Would like to know others view regarding this.

Seriously YAMAHA has upped the ante. Woooow!!!!

V-max is top notch cruiser from YAMAHA stable. Though I'm not sure how many they will manage to sell in India.

Will it compete with the Harlys? Definitely. Because even though we've all heard of Harly for eternity it seems, It's the Yams that are going in first. Many indians will not know the difference between the two.

The Yams are absolute pleasure to ride & are hailed for the engineering, while Harlys are more of gas guzzler americans. Though there is no denial about Harly aura, Yams are the future of biking, performance or cruising!!!!!!!!!!!

I accept the fact that Yamaha and Harley both are giant bike manufacturers. But both are of a kind by their style and performance. Harley bikes have a history and their bikes are real cool. These days seeing bikes like R1 or R6 is easy but how many of us spot a Harley Davidson on road? I dont think there can be any competition to Harley!

THIS BIKE IS ONLY SUITABLE FOR BIKE LOVERS WITH MONEY. NOW DAYS MOST OF THE BRANDED CAR MAKERS ARE GO TO MAKE THE LOWEST CARS AND BIKES BUT HOW YAMAHA TRUST TO INTRODUCE THIS MUCH VALUE OF VEHICLES IN INDIAN MARKET? BUT WE WILL APPRECIATE THE CONFIDENCE.

There are some segment of people available for this segment but the roadas and traffic regulations are not supporting in india. So they they may not feel the drive plesure. This is a discouraging factor.

No Yamaha wont be able to give a stiff competition to Harley mainly because of a totally different kind of category and segment. Well Harley badge is the top most priority for Bike Cruizer lovers. Owning a Harley Bike gives the owner a sense of excitement as well as confidence that he is having the best among the lot. Secondly harley is known for its Exhausts Pipes turbulence. You can easily make out just by hearing the exhaust pipes noise, the airbox that whether its a Harley or some other bike. Finally People like to be associated with Harley which has a CULT against it, no other bike has a cult feeling for itself amongst the people. Yamaha wont be therefore a stiff competitor for Harley Davidson.

The intention of launching the superbike might not be to compete with Harley Davidson as both are completely different ( HD is a roadster & YAMAHA is racer). THis might be a branding exercise to improve its BRAND IMAGE to clock sales & instill confidence in customers

I agree with you Sudhish, these two bikes are not for the general public of India. Its very costly. Both have their own customers. In this case, there will be no competition. On that, the coming of Yamaha, whose cost is much cheaper than them, will definitely not let these bikes set their own market...
