Hello All,

This Debate is mostly on a personal(Individual) level and it is a widespread topic so i would not be able to put it into 2 options like yes or no so i will try and see what i can put as an Argument Variables.

The topic i came across on Facebook and i would love to spread it across this platform and see the reaction of people.

http://www.facebook.com/indiajaiho  (under the topic: Happy 61st Republic Day : Unique Application to celebrate it Online ...)

so here goes the Big Q?

Are You Proud to be an Indian? Why? (topic has following options to get you started, but definitely not limited to the same.)

- Indian History & Ancient Culture?
- India Today?
- Indian Achievements?
- Indians?

[a few things i came across on facebook. these are few individual views!]

-----Chess (Shataranja or AshtaPada) was invented in India.
-------Sushruta is the father of surgery. 2600 years ago he and health scientists of his time conducted complicated surgeries like cesareans, cataract, artificial limbs, fractures, urinary stones and even plastic surgery and brain surgery. Usage of anesthesia was well known in ancient India. Over 125 surgical equipment were used. Deep knowledge of anatomy, physiology, etiology, embryology, digestion, metabolism, genetics and immunity is also found in many texts.
------When many cultures were only nomadic forest dwellers over 5000 years ago, Indians established Harappan culture in Sindhu Valley (Indus Valley Civilization).

------ Mr. Chirag Thapar (on Facebook)

- there is nothing to be proud for India, were people love English more than their mother tongue. were political leaders don't have courage to stop terrorism.

------ Mr. Ajay Mistry

-(ans. to why do we speak more English than mother tongue?) its just a figure to show, that INDIA has got such diversity, and we can learn any culture n its goodness easily., , for every person in world, they want to visit India, they wanna know about India, so just to spread India n its culture, we need to break the language barrier!! this is just one very small example to tell u that being a english speakin country, India n its fact, have the relevance!!!

-------Jyotsna Malhotra

- We are following the Laws from 19th century in this 21st century.. .a change is needed.Otherwise there will be nothing to proud of after all this corruption.

-------Rick RC

India is the BEST, in a way, but i would like to think that it can be far better than it is today!

i love India and i Love Indian People & Culture. I am a true Indian and i dont have to show it off and probably unless you die for your country, you may not be able to show it off, IMO. Anyways Moving onto the actual debate, in response to a few of those debates and discussions, following are my views on this topic ...

- India, An English Speaking Country: well, i completely agree with Jyotsna above that its a medium for us to be able to communicate to the whole world and talk about India as a Whole while making sure that our messages are conveyed to them in the most clear and understandable fashion. apart from hat i would like to add that it is also very important for us to be able to most affluent in our speech and make sure that we can talk to everyone on the planet (and English being a major choice of communication), there is no point trying to reinvent the wheel and tell people to drive the new wheel and leave the old. rather just pick up the old wheel and thats gonna take you the distance as it has already!

- Mr. Ajay thinks that just by loving another language you dont love your country more??? well i think otherwise! if you love your country, try learn the most out of the world and bring it back so that your country can learn more about the world and be able to gel into the crowed in stead being treated as an outsider! Today Mahatma Gandhi is well known figure to Anyone in the world because he did everything right in his time. he knew English (through which he could communicate with the English Empire) he knew the national language(through which he could communicate to the Nation), he had been places in the world (which helped him understand how India is being looked at in the world) and brought all his experience & knowledge back to India and helped India achieve its goal of a Free Nation. According to me, it makes more sense to understand and learn eerything that you can in this world and if that knowledge of yours can be utilized in anyway to help your Country, i think its the best thing you could ever do for this Country of yours. just because not everyone speaks the mother tongue or National Language that doesnt mean that there is nothing to be proud of the country! very wrong mentality!

I agree with Mr. Ashish Gandhi. India can be the best , provided all the wrongs that are there in our country can be corrected. I love India , but even in a marriage where I love my wife , if I see something that can be changed for the better , I will point it out. It is the same here. Loving one's country does not mean it cannot have any faults. I would say India will be the best country in the world if the most basic inequality viz. lack of access to resources such as education , water , power , employment is removed. I would also like to see an end to discrimination on the basis of one's religion or caste.

I am Proud of India because India is a Country which Values Human Lives (through its Cultures), Though i would contradict my own previous statement by saying that i Dont Love India because the people in India only talk about their culture and politeness and stuff like those but, in Mumbai if you try hire an Auto for yourself and if this Auto driver is not interested in going where you want to go, Please note his reaction. it gives you the sense that you have made the biggest mistake by asking him about your destination. the rudeness and insulting responses are very normal in Mumbai. Autodriver was just an example, people do the same to Autodrivers or people who they think are lower in status than them.

there is no politeness, there is no respect for the other human being, everyone wants to just stamp on the other person and move a ladder up in his life. If there is an accident on the road, our ministers keep looking at the dying Police Officer instead of getting him onto his car and rushing him to the hospital. the police force itself doesnt help its veteran. the camera crew is just shooting. Come On Man. Just by recalling History and saying the India Gave the world a reason to live, its not gonna make India Great. Thats our Forefather's gifts to the World not OUR GIFT TO THE WORLD. the Survival of the Fittest is the rule of Universe, SO, India needs to prove itself everyday to make sure that it is recognized in the world. I believe i am trying to make a difference, i expect the same from everyone.

Thank You for Taking time and reading this big Response. I Appreciate your Time & Efforts!

Thank You

Ashish Gandhi

- I also Agree to Mr Rick there that we are following the laws which were constructed in 19th Century! Too old for a system in 21st Century where we are looking at travelling the distance and going into Space and Sci-Fi Age and stuff. a lot of things in India need to change but that is not a reason to abandon the Country and leave it to suffer. We all need to do something. start a revolution, ask Government to Change Laws, UPGRADE the whole system.

According to me we are not a poor country anymore. yes that doesnt mean that i am saying that we are rich, but my point is that we can afford to do a lot of things which we are overlooking. every politician who joins in, who comes in, tries to look at the problems of the poor people, slums and etc, or rich people because from there they are gonna get their money or whatever aid they need. what about the common middle class men? who are in super majority at least in the Metros and 2tire Cities. No one thinks about them and they are the ones who are doing everything to try and bring up the country. Every politician talks about trying to remove poverty and this n that. GUYs, You cant remove poverty if the middle class i not raised to an upper level. its a simple law of nature. to fill up space, it needs to be empty! (a very simple and basic theory).

India needs Higher Standards of Living, Studies and etc at a lower rate. today Studies have become such drastic that the youngs have started to become drastic minded. they dont think anything of the future. they cant think beyond certain levels they cant be happy these days because to be happy you need to be stress free, My nephew carries a bag which weighs approximately 5 KG and he is only in Std. 5 (think about it.). The Education system needs to change a lot. just by adding new things in the portions and changing the books every 3-4 years doesnt make any upgrade in the system. if you really wanna give knowledge to children you have to come up with a way by which they enjoy what they are studying. and to do that you need to modernize the whole system for them to be interested in it any further.
