Express your opinion on the proposed free trade agreement which includes provisions for removal of taxes on commodities imported from ASEAN countries. On signing of this pact it is said the prices of commodities like rubber, fish, spices etc will dip sharply due to the lifting of taxes on imported commodities. This would be a shock treatment given by the UPA government to its citizen earning their living from primary sector.

In lieu of signing such agreement the govt should first abolish the multiple taxation system in our country. It always happens that a farm producer gets meagre sum for his product even if the end cost of this product (the cost at which the product is available in retail market) increases abnormally. The chain through which the product passes through to reach to the end consumer swallows the more. For ex MSP of rice ,wheat etc are not even one third of the rate at which it is available in the market.Same is the situation with commercial crops also. The govt should  first streamline the system by which the unwanted multiple intermediaries should be removed.

Signing of this agreement will shatter the livelihood of the farmers especially in kerala therefore the government should rethink its strategy.
