The issue of corruption

idea posted by Neelima Pandey PR & Media Relations Manager, Group M

Time was when the corrupt did not dare look anyone in the eye. Now it is the honest who avert their eyes in the glare of the wealth exuded by the corrupt. Indians probably have the largest deposits in Swiss banks. Ill-begotten, under-utilised.

Very little in the government machinery moves without money changing hands. This has given rise to a booming “black money economy” which in itself could be as large as the official economy.

I agree with this, the government is fooling people by putting issues under the carpet,

The prices of Sugar were sky rocketing and poor farmers were not getting anything but the farmers had no other option but to burn their crops so as they can go for next season crops

People are so corrupt, that in mumbai MMRDA does not talk to BMC and people suffer because of poor roads, Traffic jams, Polution etc. Rainy season has invited so many diseases because of poor planning of government, People lack awareness,

DR. Manmohan Singh made tall claims of turning Mumbai to shanghai, but all projects are running way behind the schedule, look at Bandra - Worli Sea Link project , VAG Metro rail project, Monorail project, Navi mumbai Airport project

All skywalks build in the city , are useless for Elderly & Handicap people as they are very tall and at certain areas like Santacruz, Parle, goregaon etc they are blocking the roads, and would result in traffick chaos

The Government has failed miserably in cleaning the city, all parties are keeping quite on infrastructure related issues, the cities are over crwoded and politiitans are busy with pocketing money from Builders , Water mafias, Land mafias and other influential lobbies

Divide and Rule

idea posted by Sayan Chakraborty Senior ERP Consultant, International Business machines

Present Union govt keeps dividing communities armed with Quota, reservations and special benefits to special people.

Everytime quota is introduced by this govt and they keep on changing Quota equation to lure specific class of people for vote.

We are still facing the consequences of divide and rule by British regime. This has made a situation of not amicable situation between India and Pakistan either they merge together or one capture the other. This is the way of harshness and divide and rule. For permanent peace we need the theory of love not togetherness. Not ever think of divide and rule to destroy for  the  future generation.

I think, legal system in india is lethargic, as many court cases are pending, terrorists can keep their lawyers.. etc... it is disappointing.

If our legal system starts punishing, it will have to hang itself first. Corruption start with judiciary & it's incompetency is personified. Because of its "toothless-ness" every functionary of govt. has become a disrespectful. Fighting corruption past 50 years, I have started hating myself for being an INDIAN!

Eradication of poverty

idea posted by Amrita Animation/Graphic Artist, Creative design

The promise to eradicate poverty is still undone.Although some progress has taken place, much still remains to done to improve the lot of the less privileged. We still have millions who live miserable lives, who don’t even have access to clean drinking water or electricity or a roof over their heads or any of the benefits technology has brought.

Part of the reason could lie in the fact that it requires someone who has seen poverty first hand to empathise with the poor. Our leaders and decision-makers seldom qualify on this score.

Eradication of poverty requires a holistic approach to the problem of poverty. We'll first have to agree about the source of poverty which is our rural areas. Till we're able to appreciate this vital fact we'll never be able to solve the mystery of poverty. It's not too difficult to realize that almost our entire rural population is miserably poor and an overwhelming majority of the slum population in our urban areas are actually recent migrants from the rural areas.

So, what do we do to tackle poverty in our rural areas? Let's begin by taking a good hard look at the system of governance from the district level downwards. The district administration is headed by the district collector who is appointed, not elected. So he's not accountable to the people of the district he administers. The district administration is where the government (union or state) actually interfaces the masses and this is where we have an authoritarian system (devised by the British Raj for exploitative tax collection) running our districts.

Of course we know how well the district collectors have performed over the last 6 decades and more? They haven't been able to deliver the basics of development - basic literacy, basic healthcare, basic roads, basic nothing. They only looted the districts of their dues in collaboration with the state level ministers. If anything can get things to move in India it's either accountability or emergency. Since we don't want the latter, let's be reasonable and opt for accountability.

The office of the district collector must be gradually abolished to make way for a composite district legislature headed by a District Mayor (or whatever we wish to call the post) who will be accountable to this district legislature and by extension to the people of the district. The 2nd Administrative Reforms Commission has recommended precisely this devolution of powers to the districts but the state governments are not allowing it to go forward. Empowering the districts is critical for rural development but the political classes probably doesn't want the rural areas to develop.

our leaders & ministers are busy in Garibhonko Hatav rather than Garibhi Hatau (Eradication of poverty) process. When there is no Garib (poor) there will be no Garibhi (poverty).

USE KHADI AS DRESS CODE

idea posted by Akhilesh S Joshi India Coordinator

KHADI SHOULD BE BANNED FOR ELECTED LEADERS. It is 'Khadi', by wearing that every member/ minister/ local leader/ Legislators/ Assembly Member considers that he has become the CARETAKER of the country. He becomes the law maker. He feels privileged to talk about law and what ever he speaks, should be presumed as 'saying'. Under this dress code he does 'all' and tries to command over the legislators and administrators. A person in formal dress code is deemed as low cadre parliamentarian and has become common view of the society. Let the Government announce that Khadi should be banned in parliament, assemblies which will atleast be an honor to The Great Father of The Nation Mahatma Gandhi.

on the contrary Khadi  should be made mandatory dress code for elected reps in parliament & assemblies. At least the sense of simplicity, sense of shame & discipline will prevail upon them in the house & Mahatma Gandhiji revered in that way.

We need a revolution in our country to fight corruption. its like a virus or a plague attack that has engulfed the politicians to such an extentt that now we have accepted it as a way of life. Why blame politicians, we have business houses who are corrupt. Unlsess our judiciary is strong, nothing can be done about it. I wonder why another Amedekar be born who can rewrite the constitution and scrap the very ided of Reservations. I strongly feel the whole constitution should be rewritten. may be just a wish list My top list: CORRUPTION RESERVATION

I dread the idea of going to any public system to get my job done. Be it as simple as the payment of bills to something more complicated such as help search a lost cellphone. If only they could improve the governance within the establishment. Of course many solutions have been implemented, there is still a lot to be done.

I really hate when I hear politician use their muscle power to grab things for their own benefit and personal gains like earning wealth or to win political mileage from voters. And the sufferer is the common man who have to do away with their things. The perfect example are the Bangladeshi infiltrators who have got support from the govt. by getting lands that are being snatched away illegally from the indigenous people then allotting them all the necessary documents that proves them the citizen of India and this all for TO EARN VOTES.

Quota System

idea posted by S. Muralidharan Executive Director, Knowledge Foundation & Campus Around the Corner
Unless and until we get over this quota system based on casteism, India cannot emerge as super-power even after 200 years! We brand unborn children who are likely to take birth in the families of SC & ST as Reserved Category! What a mockery! Those likely to be born in such families, who knows, could be another Martin Luther Kind, Mahatma Gandhi, Kabir Das, Sant Gyaneshwar, etc. etc. What right do we have to block them under this category? Even those who have been elevated under such reservations are still enjoying the fruits of benefits derived from such quota system - what a mockery and anamoly?

Indecisiveness of leaders

idea posted by Srinivas suravajhala Asst. Manager.

The leadership at the centre and at the states are all indecisive in character.  Most of them dont have the ability to influence the people.  Since the society vertically split on caste religion and region etc., leaders are emerging from the fragmented sections with a sentiment card.  We cant consider them as leaders theoretically since they dont have a single character of a leader.    Unfortunately, they cant even influence the entire fragment they are representing.  These fragments coming together and ruling the country and states.  They are unable to respond to a problem at the right time and making the situation worse. Emergence of strong leadership is required.

Poor governence- uneducated leaders

idea posted by Apeksha IT/Technical Editor,

In a family if all the members are educated that is great, but even if one member is educated, he can still educate the others by nurturing good habits and discipline.

similiarly if your elected leader to be able and efficient, he or she should be selfless and should have the service-bent of mind, which is lacking in our country.

More so, you see leaders getting re-elected for n terms, besides having criminal backgrounds. The judiciary should be strong and should ban such leaders from contesting elections after one other.

Also the consititution must be re-written.
