Seven lakh girls are killed by parents every year in India even before they are born, a NHRC survey said.

When a woman finds she is pregnant, anxieties set in about the sex of the unborn child. Ruthless foeticide often follows if tests that are illegal, but easy to get, show it is a girl...So how can one solve this issue??  7 lakh girls is big number...when the male to female ratio is so less at the moment and now we are getting to see news like this.....this is sad...

Will, Awareness & Education

idea posted by Amrita Animation/Graphic Artist, Creative design

It is really shameful for the entire society. But at the same time let us find out the reason for this 'genocide'. Invariably, it is due to: 1) poor resources of the parents to support a girl in the face of looming dowry, 2) Social insecurity for the girl child in the present law and order scenario as the powerful (socially & economically) rules the roost!, 3) strong discrimination of women by women 4) irresponsible parenting 5) historical bias/ traditional bias 6) psychological bias of women being week.

In order to confront and mitigate these reasons the mere passing of favourable laws will not do. It needs the proper awareness and education at the level of social organizations and government in sync. The masses need to be made receptive and responsive. Can we do this? yes. For this we need to have the will, clarity and actual doing simultaneously. It is never too late

Hello friends again..... Amrita it is really the bitter truth. As i think these all things are going in our society because of few reason. I like to point out few from them which are major problem in my sense. Firstly, Due to lack of awareness in our society about this topic. Secondly, insecureness for girl. For poor people there is one more thing, tension about dowry for a girl. There are lot of things which iam not able to write over here.....I just want to say in today scenario GIRL is never weak in any part of life even there are lots of merits in a girl

AWARENESS THAT BOY OR GIRL , BOTH ARE EQUALL

idea posted by Suresh Prasad Gupta Freelancer, Pharmaceuticals

It is a very sorry state of affair. Even when girls are seen touching newer heights in almost every field, girl foeticide is continuing to take place in our country. Newer generation have started favoring girl child but what we observe is that our older generation is still not able to digest that girls can match or even do better than the boys and the result is girl foeticide. And another reason to some extent is dowry.

Women are to blame

idea posted by Prof TKG Namboodhiri Director, Metallurgical Consultancy
I put the blame of this horrible state of affairs squarely on women. Most of the atrocities on girls, particularly daughter-in-laws, are committed by women. Unless they recognize their worth in the society, and become proud of themselves, these barbaric acts will continue. No law can prevent it. The dowry system fueled by insatiable greed is the root cause of female infanticide in our country. Only women can improve their lot in our society.

'Nice Argument' is an answer if i were to see one side of the problem. if u see the other side, then u will blame yourself and all males equally. So let me Enlighten the Plight of women :::: Our so called rich culture is a patriarchal one, meaning male dominated; male dictated; and blah blah blah. The whole problem lies with the relationship between a man and a women. Women, because of their comparably weaker body structure, males have been abusing them and exploiting them mentally and physically from eons just like slaves. Its a shame that many of the exploitation schemes have been expunged, but the basic exploitation of women has not been in a complete sense. and yeah the so called mother-in-law attacks on women is also encouraged by men, actually its again the so called culture, which suppresses indian women to oblivion. Starting from Birth, they have been neglected, as they are going to break the family line (patriarchal), A burden-safety issues leading to defamation of the family, A huge dowry has to be paid for her marrying her off. All these things leads to "save u r face, don't get a female child" Situation. Yeah now lets see about her Marrying prospects with a guy. If a women wants to marry a guy of her choice, then all hell is loose. she will be accused of family betrayal, family complications and others. she will be subjected all kinds of tortural and other methods to nullify her sprit by the so called patriarchal socity. The Values of the age old customs followed by our Narrow Minded Race is whole problem. Till date there is no femenine movement in india, what do u expect from women, who are slaves to men. there can be no friendship between a master and a slave.

law, awareness, society thought, malicious practices, education are a must for eradicating the foeticide

idea posted by Rajendran Mariagnanam Mariagnanam Founder and managing partner, Braintrain consultancy services LLP
Firstly its a good social topic where the society has to be dealt under various line of thoughts. Firstly it is more prevalent among the poor in the rural areas where the poverty is the cause -for getting the girl child married. The second vice is the dowry that not only affects the foeticide it also effects the grown up ladies too. The third is the Eduction for girl child is not stressed much as many thin that girls have to settle down to kitchen only. The fourth is the age old ingrained thought of women meant only to take care of children and family and not considered as a equal partner in growth and the society. The fifth lack of education among women and no encouragement to that. The thought of legal heir to be only a son in yester years have been amended for equal rights to property among all the heirs whether male or female. Yet this is not practiced and the men fold do not incline to that. The employment opportunity to women in various fields would enhance the value of women in society as being a partner in life. The family where women and men are working is an encouragement by itself that will reduce this problem. More than that the governments laws and encouragement needs more emphasis to curb on these issues. As very serious view of this menace should be taken into through law enforcement authorities to curb it. An open society would bring in these changes with more awareness and good will among society. The technology of determining the sex much earlier is a worst practice and though it is an offence yet people find it out with ease these days. This anxiety should also become normal whether it is a girl child or a male child. Personal & Financial Independence of Girls

idea posted by Anuj Senior Technical Project Lead, Huawei Technologies India

Really disheartening seeing this much of huge figure.

I think the basic reason behind this is

1) people treat girls as an burden including of all kind - financially + mentally . Till the time of their marriage the parents just needs to spend , spend and spend on them and the process doesn't stop even after that and in return they doesn't get anything. Please don't take my word in wrong way but this is a fact

2) The parent doesn't get a feel of pride within their community, the manly image goes off with a girl at their home.

I don't think a person needs to be educated to avoid him from doing this kind of murder. Education definitely will help but I have seen many educated people also going through the same mindset, only thing they don't take so harsh steps.

What I think this butchering will stop from the day when girls should also come to jobs, they should be financially independent, they also start taking care of their old parents as the boys do, they also spend in all their needs, I am sure then they will not be treated as an burden but as an God gift like boys. And It feels good when we see nowdays girls are doing very well in all the areas.

Changing mentality is not a 1 day job, I suppose till the time Government can run a organization with the objective that if somebody don't want to have a girl they can left their child in these organization. I suppose there are lot who can come forward to adopt these and many lot to fund for their upbringings.

Reform the law and increase social awareness

idea posted by Jaygopal Raghavan Marketing Manager, Landmark Group
Most part of the problem lies in our law - which is both anarchaic and ancient. Our justice system needs urgent reformation. When there is a clear evidence of foeticide, hang the culprits so that it serves as an example for future offenders. Also publish the culprits full photograph and actual name in the newspapers, electronic media, posters on the walls etc. Let the society they live in know about the offender amidst them. One thing i cant understand is why should criminals have their faces covered when being arrested or taken to court. For gods sake they are criminals, expose them.

Inability of family and the government

idea posted by KALIYAMOORTHY Oil & Gas Area Coordinator, Undisclosed

Generally, family finds difficult to fend them to the requirement(the standard of living) and the government needs to devise a policy and provide facility to make them live independently. Mainly because , they are the creators of society, a special provision bestowed by god. Society needs to refine its socials norms whether government provides facility or not but, to ensure their living useful and easier.
