Taj Mahal

idea posted by Rajat Mittal Product/Brand Manager, Jet Airways

The Taj Mahal is my favorite & also one of the seven wonders of the world.

http://blog.lib.umn.edu/drube004/architecture/

An interesting piece of trivia that I had read …

The Taj (including the 4 minarets) is a perfectly symmetrical structure with the spire on the dome as the central axis. Mumtaz’s tomb was also placed right in the middle to maintain the symmetry. The only non-symmetrical feature of the building is the tomb of Shah Jahan which was later added beside Mumtaz’s (and was not a part of the initial construction plan).

Yesterday I got a mail regarding the above cited topic. The guy name is Mr.Hari. He flodded the mail & forced everyone to vote for Sri Harmandir Sahib to include in the seven wonders of India.

Accordinng to him "TAJ is a wonder from so many years and now its time to include one more wonder from india in the list of 7 wonders"

Well friends, I am not agreed with this. According to me, Taj is already included in seven wonder & if we divide our own votes... we will loose both.

I replied to Mr.Hari that there is no place like Golden Temple on this planet. It is beyond any number game. Its a place  where you get solution of all d problems. A place where you can feel comfortable you relaxed even more than your own home.

I also request to all of you. Pls do not divide yourself on the basis of region or religion.

The poll conducted for the Seven Wonders of India. Indians hold their religious sites as bigger marvels than the ancient or mediaeval architectural wonders.

Pls do not divide yourself on the basis of region or religion.

Golden Temple of India, Amritsar

I would like to vote for Golden Temple of India which is also known as Sri Darbar Sahib.

Harmandir Sahib

Its architecture represents a unique harmony between the Muslims and the Hindus way of construction work and this is considered the best architectural specimens of the world. It is often quoted that this architecture has created an independent Sikh school of architecture in the history of art in India.

Konark - Sun Temple

idea posted by Sushil Soren Executive Manager, Hospitality Services

I will vote for this amazing place and everyone should make it a point to visit this temple as it is the most famous tourist attraction in Orissa.

Konark Sun Temple

The structure has been designed as a chariot of the Sun god, driven by seven horses and carried by 12 pairs of wheels. According to Hindu mythology, the sun god circles the earth in this chariot.

I will also vote this...to see and enjoy the place in detail it is advisable that you stay overnight and derive pleasure from the stay. The amazing thing is that the images of the Sun God are positioned so as to catch the sun's rays at dawn, dusk and noon. Perfect proportions and magnificence of the structure make the Sun temple at Konark a breathtaking sight.

No words or pictures will be able to capture the grandeur and stupendous beauty of the Hampi ruins. You need to be there, be still and let it engulf you.

Hampi, as it is popularly known today was the medieval capital of the Hindu empire Vijayanagara (the City of Victory) and is listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Shore Temple, Mahabalipuram

idea posted by Sumeet Moghe VP - Operations, TooStep

Mahabalipuram, a 7th century port city near Chennai, ruled by the Pallavas has been classified as a UNESCO World heritage site. he Shore Temple is a five-storeyed structural Hindu temple. It is the earliest important structural temple in Southern India. The Shore Temples configuration of the two Shiva shrines with the small Vishnu shrine in between illustrates an attempt to balance the different, competing religious requirements.

My vote is for Jantar Mantar....

Jantar Mantar at Jaipur is the largest stone observatory in the World. Interesting note: initially Jantar Mantar was named as Yantra Mantra, which means instruments and formulae, but due to mispronunciation of the term, it is changed to the recognized name.Jantar Mantar Jaipur

Gol Gumbaz

idea posted by Charles davison Project Manager, Douglas OHI LLC

Gol gumbaz in Bijapur karnataka is a piece of wonderfuk Archtecture. The chief attraction of the mausoleum is its central dome, which is second in size only to the dome of St Peter's Basilica in Rome and stands unsupported by any pillars. Another astonishing facet of the Golgumbaz is its whispering gallery, which is an acoustic marvel. The gallery has been designed in such a way that the tick of a watch or the rustle of paper can be heard across a distance of 37m and the faintest sound is echoed eleven times over.

Adults become children in the whispering gallery!!!

Common Man is the eighth wonder of the world. Self centered politicians, corruption at high places, caste/relihious feelings, growing illiteracy, inability to raise people to above the poverty line... inspite of all this.. common man lives happily in India and Worships it as Mother India ? Is it not a wonder ?
