The government hopes to net around Rs.45,000 crore from the ongoing auctions to award radio frequency spectrum for third generation (3G) telecom services and for rolling out broadband wireless internet services, Communications Minister A Raja said on Tuesday.

"The auction of 3G and Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) spectrum put together is likely to fetch Rs 44,000-45,000 crore for the government," Raja said on the sidelines of an event organised by an association of telecom operators. This figure is much higher than the Rs 35,000 crore predicted by the government as revenue from these auctions.

Focus On Better Infrastructure

idea posted by shilpa yadav Associate/Sr. Associate -(NonTechnical), Hindustan Thompson Associates

The Govt. should see that the services are provided to the people without any disruption. And for this it has to focus more on developing proper infrastructure. More investments should be made to see that all facilities are available to run the services smoothly.

Hello Shilpa,  As the government is getting Rs. 44,000 Crores, they can sepnd this money to produce Solar and wind mill energy for the rural area. This will help the rural people for the agriculture and house purpose. The employment generation will be increased tremendously. Hope you will agree on this.

K Rajagopalan.

As a common person, I feel better infrastructure is essential for proper connectivity and services. The advantage should be equally shared in remote areas of the country through developed infrastructure.

e have to possibly upgrade  straight away to 4G, than waisting our time on 3G

somehow we r struck with 3G, we arenot looking forward.

Broad brand infrastructure is abysmally slow and poor, it is not really contributing for the growth.

May be if necessary, all the money being raised should be put on developing the back bone infrastructure, so that communication o broadband is very effectingve and superfast.

this will start improving the performance of the population and industry.

Plan next step for "higher capacity" and "IP based "networks

idea posted by domenico fama HR Business Parner, international Bank

India is a fast growing economy, one of the 3 more stepping up in the world (India, China, Brasil).

Local economy, in my perception, need 3G only as an intermediate step before to have to cope with a far more challenging ICT market (consumers, enterprises and public administration) demanding for definitively:

- more capacity (data flow in the net will exceed voice flow),

- in the mobile applications segment (laptops, cell phones and other innovative devices)

- for innovative services internet based ("IP Transformation" both for TLC networks and overall operators' business model)

Its just a starting step for India with 3G happening, but there are many things that needs to be in place, and the huge money that they have got from this they should come up with Wimax services also improve infrastructure in terms of connectivity which is in bad shape, and also in the recent BRIC summit all the countries have agreed upon mutual trade and it was said that the world wants India to succeed and this is gives India a great opportunity to come up with solutions which it can make India a great place for investments  and many other things......

More spread , more value for money

idea posted by K. NARAYAN None, None

I would like to see :

1.  Mobile number portability between operators

2.  Reduction in the cost of existing services

When colour TV became popular , the prices of B & W TVs crashed so that they came within the range of the lower classes. Similarly , 3G and 4G are for the upper middle class , since they will need mobiles which are in the high price range.

Bring down the price of basic mobiles to less than Rs. 1000 , and provide basic services at the lowest possible cost. Subsidise these services using the revenue from the high end services.

Indians being an agriculture dependent, Govt. should focus on Rural development. If there are more famines or heavy rains, India should be self-sustainable. Industrial production & services are at their peak & ever growing. Now, govt. should also do something great for The Common Man. What say ?

Satellite Telephony & Broadband Service must be considered as a need of the hour because unnecessarily the state wise area restrictions are killing the customers for paying hefty roaming bills.

3G or 4G service will be highly appreciated as it will bring down the unnecessary roaming charges, although only the rich or upper middle class people will be able to afford these services. It will subsequently bring down the prices of the present mobiles too and with the incentives provided to local mobile companies, all parties related to mobiles will profit.

India should take relative a new market of producing Green Energy. Solar and Wind will be good bets. I personally do not like Nuclear Energy, because of the risks involved. THE BOTTOM LINE IS WHICH EVER COUNTRY LEADS THE RENEWABLE ENEGRY INITIATIVE NOW, WILL BECOME THE LEADER IN WORLD ECONOMY FOR NEXT FEW HUNDRED YEARS AT LEAST.
