After per second billing came into picture the telecom providers are into war with other networks and also the TRAI which is playing its part in reducing the tariffs in the country. It's nothing short of a war between these telecom majors, and the bad news for them is that this is a war that is nowhere close to its end. Telecom majors like Airtel, Vodafone, and Reliance Communications have been cutting tariffs to maintain market share with the entry of new GSM players such as Tata DoCoMo, which in a way changed the whole arena for other telecom networks which were already there and the new ones which will be coming in days ahead to come.

I would like to know from the Telecom professionals on the platform like, what comes next in the ongoing price war between mobile phone companies? Like what will be their next move after per second billing? Experts do give your views.

Roaming rates reduced

idea posted by Sonal Singh Project Manager, Nortel Networks

Discussions are ongoing in many camps to cut in roaming rates, and already Airtel and Tata DoCoMo have gone ahead and cut tariffs. I am sure they have factored this into their business plans. And soon we will be seeing others joining hands in this. Industry experts are also saying that the cuts are only expected to increase and tariffs are yet to bottom out. Sources say a further 15-20% decline in call rates can be expected over the next few months.

I think Sonal is wright but Reliance roaming rate is quite less than others.

50 paise for every thing.

Drop in SMS rates

idea posted by Inani Sarkar Sales/BD Manager, Aricent

I guess a normal consumer like me would be happy if the SMS rates are also dropped, as many of them will be having these monthly packages which will be costing more, and it costs very less for the telecom networks like, 1 paise per message, so it will be great if the SMS rates are  also slashed.

This is a endless war in telecomm sector regarding call rates as vodafone announcedd 0.01 paisa per sms plan for up(w) prepaid customer`s and start a new battel in tne market.

i agree with inani abt what still can be done in telecomm schemes ..as there is cut throat competition exists between the telecomm sectors still a lot of things can be done bt as per due to the rules and regulations of TRAI.....the day is nt much far when we will be having a simple monthly plan where we can use unlimited talk time in any network........

Same number, Same VAS - Different SP

idea posted by Makrand Bhave Marketing & MICE, WIZCRAFT International

Apart from the rate wars i do not think there is any other innovation that would come as a relief to the consumer. But the idea of choosing a SP with your own number / same number would be an amazing concept. choose as you roam!!

Maybe its a bit too fantasical but thats my thought :))

Yes i agree, i have heard from sources that we can retain our numbers no matter whichever network we select.Probably this will be the next major move in telecom

Personalized Billing Plan

idea posted by Ikhtiar Sobhan Marketing Manager, Orascom Telecom Bangladesh Limited

Every person is unique, and so is their needs. So, we need products that's just fits right. Rather than offering a "one size fits all" type of products, operators need to find ways to cater the needs of different segments. There are some segmentation already in the market but that's not enough. Mobile operators should concentrate on having the next generation billing where the customer can choose exactly what they like.

Dell used to allow customers build their own Desktop Computer through their website. People can choose the processor, the amount of RAM etc. etc. Similarly the customers should be able to choose the number of FnF, Peak/Off Peak hours etc. The monthly rental can depend on the choices so operators do not lose revenue as well.

Data services

idea posted by Abdul Raheem.Syed Systems Engineer, Leading CEM vendor

With the hype created so far for the 3G technology, operators are eying to target the customers for the data services. I hope this is next in the series as far as the Indian market is concerned

Fixed Charge Per Month (Unlimited Any Type Any Where)

idea posted by Kuldeep Upadhyay Sr. Software Engineer (Telecom), Infozech Software Ltd.
It would be possible that Operators will charge a fixed amount for all call, sms, mms & data services, after this there will be no extra charges only fixed/flat amount for services.

idea posted by girish raghvendra deshpande technical support engineer, Teltonika wireless solutions india pvt.ltd

i think one day these telecom giants will make one same rate for local &std(in all circles   in india),also they can make sms packs for in circle &out of circle at the same rate(obviously reduced do not need to say)

MORE INTERACTIVE USEFUL AND REASONABLY PRICED CONTENT

idea posted by Arunangshu Choudhury Agent, L.I.C

The price of Content need to be reduced.I mean how can they charge 10rs for wallpapers when the same service provider charges 1paisa for sms.I think from now on the the watchword will be more interactive and useful content that is also reasonably priced.

No of ALPHABETS in an SMS

idea posted by C Nijagunaradhya Planning engineer, Aarvee associates

Rate of each SMS may be charged based on no of alphabets typed .

But all of us need to wait for NUMBER PORTABILITY first. Because this is what is gonna pull and push the mobile companies in terms of prices charged for usage or network coverage. And customers will have a  clear complete freedom to opt for the best .

Also Internet usage is major one which may be seen as change in near future. Hopefully RBI sanctions MOBILE BANKING soon .
