I feel that subject matter which attracts different audiences based on interest. For some products, more specialized, niche content is critical for targeting an appropriate audience. I could say they want their ads to be adjacent to select types of content such as small business.

I agree and disagree with this. Yes you would like to target your "Comfort Zone" audience but at the same time you are trying to reach new consumers to inscrease the market share. So while sticking with what works best is safe you really are not doing anything different.
I would consider a more widespread factor of trying to tagert as many people as I can then break down your stats to better improve your media strategy.

The entire set of demographic categories, sub-categories should be available to enable any advertiser to choose between media options. The advertiser will want to target specific target group with a given occupation, economic spend, location, gender, age and language. So demographic would be an important media factor. |

The content should be in sync with the demographics to make it a hit.Then comes integration and carefull time plan to makemost out of it. |
