The world's largest atom smasher has set a record for high-energy collisions by crashing two proton beams at three times more force than ever before in their attempt to create mini-versions of the Big Bang that led to the birth of the universe 13.7 billion years ago. The $10 billion Large Hadron Collider directed the beams into each other on Tuesday as part of its ambitious bid to reveal details about theoretical particles and microforces. The collisions start a new era of science for researchers working on the machine below the Swiss-French border at Geneva.

Scientists at a control room at the European Organization for Nuclear Research, or CERN, broke into applause when the first successful collisions were recorded. Their colleagues from around the world were tuning in by remote links. The experiment at CERN, creating a record for the energy of particle conditions, will allow researchers to examine the nature of matter and the origin of stars and planets. The collisions took place at a record total collision energy of 7 billion billion electron volts (eV) and at a nano-fraction of a second slower than the speed of light in CERN's 27 km (16.8 mile) Large Hadron Collider (LHC), about a hundred metres (330 feet) below the Swiss-French border.

So users, What new things Science can get from this?

New Molecules

idea posted by Prasad Rajadhyaksha Assistant Professor, BIT

This experiment will definitely add some more chapters to the Chemistry and Physics textbooks. The success of the explosion will discover many new molecules which science didn't know till date. I think some more boxes will be added within few years to the molecular table.

New Reactions

idea posted by Shikha Malhotra Product Development Manager, Reliance Petroleum

With this explosion, many atom particles have broken and merged. We can know if any new particle takes birth with these reactions or not. Also, if there is something smaller active particle than electron, proton and neutron and thus we'll be having much greater scope for new experiments.

Foolish Project

idea posted by Vikram Gaur State - Convener (IT), Haryana, Bharatiya Janata Party

Whole project which is under going to know how earth was created is a foolish project. I dont find useful for mankind rather very very small mistake can distroy everything.

If you want to know how earth was created. One can read Book like bhagwat. Every thing is explained scientifically better than any modern scientist can explain.

You can cram that book like other western scientist did to publish their research.
