In my opinion I feel the business side has an inflated view of the technology's life cycle. In fact companies should focus more on the risks rather than the opportunities of IT investments which will help in improved results on ROI.

One more fact is that somebody is not clear how he wants to use IT. They need to understand the potential of It and how it could help them and then he need to chalk out the features he wants. Too many features make the thing complex, unrealistic and deviates from goal.
The business has an inflated view of the technology's lifecycle. Price performance continues to improve over time, but the unit cost of most technology doesn't decline nearly as fast. Vendors add power, capability and features to their products to keep unit prices up, even as they hype improved price performance. The practical result: IT must spend more time than seems reasonable on each refresh cycle—even though in many cases demand has grown enough to make the added capabilities and capacity necessary.
IT solution implementation is tough compeared to selling because the client is not sure about the requirement and the expectations are unrealstic and they will not be interested in paying for the additional requirements ( they never agree with or accept the requirement as new.

Many organization's todays major problem is lack of clarity on what is business strategy. In ideal scenario, business objectives, goals, and the strategy to meet them has to be clearly explained to the lowest level. Then automatically IT will mould itself to meet the business objectives. Else every department if not everyone will devise their own strategy and try to build things up on it. Obviously there will be conflicts. |

Essentially the person who focuses on Business thinks about the ROI and tangible things which boosts the company IT even the SOA does it in slower lane. But i have seen in the Media IT playing quick role in advt and make it return more.

Chirag good point, other challenge is IT organizations almost never get to start fresh. I mean the state of affairs which have been constructed by earlier technologists who did things in different and sometimes incompatible ways and decommissioning legacy technologies is never as easy as adding new technologies to the stack, so old technologies hang around, complicating the infrastructure landscape.

Well in my small experience of little over 14 years with the Indian IT world I believe that most of the users don't want to think out of the box. They don't want to accept the new trends and explore new frontiers because we have been growing in an environment where "Sab chalta hai. Adjust karna padta hai" is the buzzword. People loathe at accepting technological changes and find it hard to keep up with the pace at which technology is changing. Sometimes it becomes tough for the management to invest money on regular intervals to keep their organization abreast of the latest challenges.

Any IT implementation have cost attached to it and the only way you can sell it out is by justifing the ROI to the business

Gone are the days when Telecom & IT were looked in isolation. Circuit switched Voice telephony has limitations. Digital technology has reduced the system size, power consumption, implementation time, O&M and realiability. Nevertheless, much is yet to be done for fully melding Telecom with IP network and the Packet data network. Telecom signaling systems are designed for real tilme applications withing the network and with other networks. VoIP over ATM and intelligent routers, will be the future. IP based routing / MPLS network will dramaticlly change the scenario. Serververs with Open system application will help to simplify networking at every level in the PDN. With higher and higher data rates in the backbone and end links for multi-media applications and products, Wired and Wirless networks are converging fast. The distinguishing factors are only in the type of end link and the type of end user device. Every Mobile service provider offers high daa rate in Mega range. It would be more than enough if 384Kbps is delivered for the mobile network for streaming of real time Video plus voice, which is high end end need in a mobile situation. I wonder why the Mobile companies are enagaged in mere lip service on unworkable, unwanted propositons for years. Why use a claw bar for a tooth pick. Irony is that the advancement in each of these fields are going parallel instead of integrated approach. Consolidation is the need of the day. |

Hi
All Based
on my consulting experience, these vary, but have put across few common things
which I have encountered personally in my career: -No clean slate -Too little, too late -Unrealistic
expectations -Change Management -Out-of-sync
strategies -Nothing stays the
same -Application
integration -Finding the Right People -Integrating
Information -Data Protection &
Security -Lack of Education Regards Mihir Kumar Jhaveri,

According to me a critical challenge to integrate IT with business is how to protect your
data from any number of internal and external threats. Hackers want to
steal it. Floods, fire, earthquakes and storms can destroy it.
Disgruntled employees want to erase it (after selling it to your
competition). You might accidentally delete it.
If you follow the above points then it will become slightly easier to make use of information technology in your business. |

Integration of most business systems is now possible with the IDASM or the Integrated Data Analysis and Simulation Module. The technology was developed with the help of VNIT a regional Engineering institute on par with the IIT. For further details, you can write to arijay@idasm.net, parag@idasm.net or Admin@idasm.net |
