Brilliant ideas which works

First focus on one think around which your idea will rotate this is the first step. Brainstorming without any specific direction will be useless. REplace your intellect with imagination.

The first point to think about is the NEED.

But how do we find out what is NEEDED? 

The NEED is greatest where the negative results/feelings are the greatest.

When something does not work well and that annoys, irritates, or frustrates us - there is the NEED for an innovation or even an invention.

When some system (a set of interacting elements working towards a common goal) produces poor results, then there is a NEED for process rationalization/upgrading.

The second thing to keep in mind is an age-old saying in English - "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Mind you, this does NOT hold true all the time. However, before tinkering with a machine, or a process, or a system or anything that is working well, we must ask ourselves "Does it really need fixing?"

It is quite possible that our frustration with a machine or a process or a system is due to lack of knowledge/understanding. So, it would be better to rectify that lack of knowledge/understanding first before spending our energies and talents in trying to "fix" things.

Would like to narrate an incident here

When the parachute was invented there were public demonstration held all over the western countries. In those early days, the parachutes DID NOT have a tiny hole on the top and was fully enclosed. Because of this “full enclosure”, it used to take a very long time to descend and also it used to swing very much, causing much discomfort to the user. Due to this, many people did not prefer to use the parachute.

During one such demo in Canada, when the parachutist landed, a little boy of about 8 years age, went over and suggested loudly that there has to be a small hole on the top of the parachute. Hearing this statement, everyone in the crowd laughed and thought the kid as being stupid. Everyone thought that the parachute wouldn’t work if there is a hole on the top.

All but the parachutist laughed and ridiculed the boy. He took this idea and implemented it successfully. With a small hole on the top, not only the parachute work but the side to side swinging stopped too! Once the problem was solved, the parachute became very popular with pilots all around the world.

Ultimately, it was those who laughed who turned out to be idiots and not the little boy whose idea gave way to new design of parachutes which saved many thousands of lives.

So, nobody is small and no idea is to be ridiculed. 

Today, more than 4 billion, of a total population about 7 billion people across the world are classified as at the bottom of the pyramid (BoP). The buying power of this market has been increasing steadily over the years. Products and services that address their needs and wants can be the basis for generating simple, elegant ideas.

For example, can a financial adviser, who sells financial products for a brokerage fee, create awareness about post-office savings, PPF, mutual funds, equity and commodities among the BoP population and actually create a market segment. This awareness will wean them away from the elusive money lender and unstructured chit funds. Today's reach of the internet will help control the delivery of such services.

A small group in Bangalore is already studying this idea to help servant maids, corporation employees and the like get their identity proofs, bank accounts and other pre-requisites to enable them to start investing in the more structured and monitored avenues mentioned above.
