Keep an eye on your tyre pressures

idea posted by Mridula Maity Product Development Manager, Rugel

You should always be careful about tyre pressures. Under-inflated tyres increase fuel consumption by up to 10 percent and also effect stability during drive. Excessive air pressure, on the other hand, results in faster wear of treads, giving a hard and bumpy ride.

Keeping your tyres properly inflated, therefore, can increase fuel mileage and help reduce flats caused by uneven tyre wear. Also please avoid fitting oversized tyres or nutty accessories. They may impress a few, but not your car’s performance.... Hope I gave you a good tip here.... cheers:)

Simple things, I like to follow -

             1. Tyre pressure every 15 days.

             2. Servicing every 3 months.

             3. Keep it always clean & shining.

             4. Driver fast, but with utmost care

Many points here, but consider: (a) keeping engine tuned, (b) good driving habits: minimal braking and optimim speed depending on traffic conditions and car characteristics, (c) tyres that have sufficient tread visible and their periodic rotation, (d) wheel alignment, (e) periodic change of engine and gearbox oil...

Drive safe & maintain safe

idea posted by KALIYAMOORTHY Oil & Gas Area Coordinator, Undisclosed
Many things involved in car, 1. Drive safely as speed prescribed by manufacture 2. Follow maintenance schedule as enlisted by manufacturer 3. Follow 360 degree check before use. Its just looking all outward visible parts including tyre pressure, oil level, water etc. 4. Park vehicle in parking place , not randomly on filthy or dusty environment. Like you have a house, give it a house. 5. Try use vehicle by earmarked person only not by all who knows driving. 6.Of course, the latest higher efficiency lube oil & fuel may yield higher productivity.

Take very good care of your car by doing regular servicing, changing oils, applying minimum breaks.

Assessing traffic and using less of gear change and so less of pedal on accelerator.

Driving more on neutral whenever possible, keeping the engine switched off at signals.

Wheel balancing always proper.

Keeping the engine tuned

idea posted by Kiran Kumar Reddy Business Analyst, SAP

Always keep your engine tuned. A fouled spark plug or plugged/restricted fuel injector can reduce fuel efficiency as much as 30 per cent.  This was  told to me by my car dealer and some basic stuff which he explained, but i need some expert pointers from people on the platform, like how to get the most out of your car.

Hello Kiran, Of course it is good to keep the car of your choice and maintain it properly. Use the car for the weekend and get it seviced regularly to avoid unnecessary problem. Also you can drive the car with your family for any out of station/ inlaws place/hliday visit to a hill station. last to say it all depends on your purse.

Avoid sudden acceleration and braking

idea posted by Johnson Michael Software Developer, Unnamed

Remember that your car is a machine. Try to avoid sudden acceleration and braking. If you have to brake, it will be better to lift the foot off the accelerator and slowly reduce the speed, while shifting down gears in case of a manual car. Of course, in case of an emergency, there is no other option than sudden braking. However, if you are a defensive driver, most often you would not need to sudden brake.

This is just one of the suggestions. Overall, to get the best out of your car, there are several things you need to do. 1.)Do regular maintenance. I would prefer going to an authorized dealer. I will never go to an unrecognized doctor for my medical treatment. Why would i do otherwise with my car? 2.)Try not to share the car with others. Everyone has their own style of driving. 3.)Maintain proper tyre pressure 4.) Do regular car wash incuding full body wash and underside wash.

Not exactly a Bus. Maybe if you plan properly it may be cheaper to hire a car for a day or 1/2 day. You get all ythe comforts of a car without the maintainence costs. TCO is definitely cheaper, no worry about parking, insurance etc.

Use a synthetic Oil (I prefer Mobil1) of 5W or 0W rating. It will give you good performance and a long engine life.

Minimal use of Clutch

idea posted by Avisek Roy Executive, Wipro Consulting Services

Driving in the city condition requires excessive use of clutch, hovever if one judges the traffic condition well the use of clutch is brought down. That means longr engine life, better emissions and higher fuel efficacy.

Know your Car better

idea posted by KANNAN SUBBIAH Director Operations
Above all of the maintenance tasks, you need to know your car better. Get familiar about the noise that you hear when inside the car and the vibrations that you feel, the smoothness of the drive, and the steer. Let your senses alert you when any of these are felt differently than usual. Any thing different means, you got a symptom to investigate. Do an examination or check by yourself, to look for possible problems. If you are not able to, then leave it to a good mechanic to figure it out, and get to know about the possible fixes.

idea posted by varunsangani Freelancer, Freelancer

A car/bike should be maintained & runned only in the hands of single person , shouldn't be used by multiple people and if the car is not used offenly then atleast once in 3days start the engine and leave it in idling postion for 10minutes and keep following the other ideas as above for a good life of the car.
