Tires play a vital role in fuel efficiency. Its thickness decides the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. The tires with an RRF within 15 percent of the lowest RRF tire is known as “consumer friendly tires”. This is the reason I think tires should be ranked according like automobiles on their fuel efficiency.

Fuel effeciency is surely dependent of inflation pressure in tires. Generally depends on tires manufacturers instruction. To maintain this pressure in the tire is important , but however as load variations inside the car is negligible to have effect on inflation pressure. But what makes the tire profile , especially the running profile is the speeds it faces ( tire shape , traction and line of contact with the road changes depending on speed the vehicle is moving , and of course the roughness of the road ( i dont remember the exact relation between road rougness and tire contact line with load , but however it follows the second order system ). So in my opinion , if we have to categorize tires on fuel effeciency , its not complete. But nonetheless many tire companies , show the advantage of using their tires on fuel effeciency , but many a time it depends mainly 3 categories : Passenger car tires , Light truck , and heavy duty tires. But if we observe the the load cycles are constantly playing a important role of varying the air pressure at contact line and bulge in and bulge out of tire, there by the contact area manipulation. Most fuel values are tested and identified on static tire contact profile and at part load operating conditions of vehicle in speed ranges about 80kmph and full load at 200 Kmph ( traction and steering control ) , be careful a wrong profile for speeds can understeer the vehicle even at a bank of 1 to 2 degrees. None the less , tires cna be better suggested in my opinion depending on purpose they use the vehicle for. So i agree the tire condition of road, terrain , mud road, sport radials. These are optimized for all the effeciencies and safety levels too. So , outcome is : fuel effeciency and safety level is equally important. |
