In July 2008, international oil prices spiked to a record $148 (Rs6,852.4 today) per barrel, ruining the fiscal math for countries such as India that are overwhelmingly dependent on imports.

                       Come 2030

               http://www.infrastructurist.com/wp-content/uploads/empty-299x300.gif

The latest oil shock has re-emphasized the urgency for India to evolve a solution to secure its energy needs such that they mitigate, if not preclude, such economic shocks. All the more so because the existing energy plan envisages India’s dependency on imports to increase to 90% by 2030. So, how to tackle this situation which will be arising not far from today?

Address energy security in a much better way

idea posted by Kiran Kumar Reddy Business Analyst, SAP

We need to address the energy security in a better way, and the required energy security strategy now has two strands. At one level the country needs to secure stable supplies of energy to meet growing demand at one hand. And at another, India needs to evolve fuel efficiency standards that will not only ensure efficacy in consumption but also incentivize alternative forms of energy such as solar power.

This and alternate energy system are the only way to address this issue.

I agree with you Kiran on the subject. The only countries who they will be left with oil are USA and Veninzuala.

Improve Public Transport System. Bring in schemes where people instead of investing in cars would by stocks of energy companies. Public Transport system in India is the worst. Political leaders beleive in building airports in evry district capital instead of improving roads. In Metros even today in new residential layouts our planners do not htink beyond 24m wide roads. They also do not thnink of providing bus bays and parking facilities. We have also schemes to shift industries from residential areas to outskirts and permit conversion of those sheds in to Marriage choultries. One such example is Rajajinagar SSI area. This area can now be called Kalyananagari. There are more than 80 Choultries in this area. Imagine people from all over bangalore travelling to this area to attend marriages creating traffic jams on all roads leading to this place, resulting in fuel waste. We still beleive in horizontal development. If we ban horizontal development and encourage high raise buildings and convert exisisting layouts in to Flats we will solve trafiic problem in these layouts and thus save energy

As long as Sun is giving energy, The energy can be converted to different types for usage and we have technologies already available. We have to think of a period where sun is not giving energy. In many platforms i have mentioned the need of research on zero point energy. Zero point energy could be the last sources of energy can be utilized.

Reap the Solar & Wind Energy

idea posted by Ranganathan Rajendhran Sr. Technical Analyst, Dhanus Technologies

Solar and Wind energy is available in abundant, even before the life formed on earth.  But, we did not develop technologies to reduce their cost effectively.  Everyone is running behind fossil fuels, which were cheap in the early stages of industrialisation.  In due course, various factors like rapid industrialisation, development of automobiles, political issues, etc. led the prices of fossil fuels to shoot up.

Oil Companies should give up their greed for money and invest their surplus funds to develop Solar Energy, which can reap them huge profits in long run.

Hello Kiran, of course it is very interesting question. The Government and planning department has to plan and decide. Overall we have to save and reduce the consumption of petrol which will help everybody in the globe.

Use Green source

idea posted by Dr. Siva Adarsh Consultant, Metabolic Disease & Research, Narayana Hrudayalaya

Technology has advanced to such extend that alternative to biofossils are very much available, but with an high price tag.

This is mainly because of less demand and cost recovery. For ex. Electric versions of transportation will be much greener.

The all new developed Reva NXR (to be launched soon) is the best example. it runs 160Km/charge which consumes 2.5 units and runs @100km.hr max. the price tag speculated to be high.

But if more and more people start using such vehicle, the cost will come down.

Similarly in 2wh there are numerous players but very few takers compared to ICE based vehicles.

There are few players who are ready with communtable mini bus (electric) but no takers.

Govt should also come out with some aggressive plans to promote more usage of such vehicles. This will reduce our dependency on crude oil import and save the environment and economy.

Wait and Watch - Increase Economic Growth

idea posted by Vipin Bhasin Private Equity/Hedge Fund/VC-Manager, Indian Investment Co.

Good ideas are given by many experienced person. But by heart, Are you feel like that? Is it possible that some people sacrifice his leisure NO. Everybody knows about the measures to save fuel, electricity, pure water etc. in India. But still, no result is there. So i think, Indians believe in present. Lets wait and watch for 2030. I am cent- percent sure that Indians will find out the suitable measure for same at the time of cause happens...otherwise we can just discuss on the topic.

For Example:- 15years back an Ad usually came on the television that Save Fuel- use one vehicle to travel on same way although it belongs to your home or neighborhood/locality/colony/society. But as a Delhites, i never ever seen the same in my city. Maybe same happened with your cities.

So just try to improve economic growth more and more at present scenario. and wait and watch for problem which will face by us after 20 years. Like OZONE Layer....

Today we have few lternative fuels like bio fuel, solar energy and energy generated from water to run a car which is recent innovation by great indian scientest in abroad and also there are polution free the only this is it has to be produced to the requirements some to be implemented

Substitute is the only method

idea posted by KALIYAMOORTHY Oil & Gas Area Coordinator, Undisclosed

When Engineering Innovation &  Alteration does not work out, then substitution is the only way. Look for alternate fuel that substitutes Oil like biofuel Ethenol etc. Because, Innovation (discovering more oil) & viable design change in engineering principle fails & Oil reserve depletion goes past.

if any among these Minister for petroleum , New and renewable energy ministry, Ministry of fertiliser and Chemicals,Minister of Agriculture have taken pro active stand UPA govt would have been a catalyst , unfortunately they have been a spoke in the wheel. we are still at primary phase of technologies in distillation and scale and we need to study hydrogen, butanol, Cellulosic, Algal biofuels and a whole lot .....

idea posted by kanukurthy sudershanrao Operations Manager, Andhra Bank

Solar power, wind power, water harvesting, some way to convert rain fall into energy specially in those areas where heavy rainfall is a continuous feature are the things to be exploited to the fullest extent.  Government should think in terms of encouraging projects for the full use these sources of alternat fuel.

We are having n number of resources....

Promote Use of Cycles

idea posted by Gurpreet Singh Team Associate, BA Continuum Solutions
I think we should give more preference to cycles because it have 2 major advantages 1- It doesn't require high cost, special maintain, economic, and best it save fuel 2- It keep a person fit and healthy

Developing an alternative fuel will take its  own time, but it is  about time, that resources are pooled and conservation efforts are taken to effect saving.

Usage of non-conventional and renewable resources to be encouraged

idea posted by Srinivas suravajhala Asst. Manager.

The time has come for us to switch over to non-conventional and renewable energy, since the conventional energy sources are going to deplete in the days to come. But, this is not gaining the attention of the Govts. and common folk as well.  The reliance on conventional energy sources has to be discouraged besides improving the infrastructural facilities to curtail the wastage.

idea posted by durgesh kumar M.E/M.Tech/MS student, school of petroleum technolgy

Gas hydrates are the most attractive fuel which is under research for their production.May be it will fulfill the scarcity of fuel in future.and India have lots of gas and gas hydrates in sea bed but still waiting for new Technology and some breakthrough in research work.

and sure many renewable source of energy will play the role like Tidal energy,solar,bio-fuel..........etc
