We need structured development in India. Unstructured human intervention to natural beauty is costing us. Recently, there was a report on NDTV about the depleting beaches on indian coasts. Ours beaches are shrinking and we are putting rocks on sea shores. This is happening as unlike other countries, we do not restore the beaches with sand. Most of us believe that this is a natural phenomenon while the fact is, we are creating ports every 30 kms on the Indian coast on the west. To create ports, and let the ship get to the land, we are killing our beaches. The cruel fact is the business from shipping is killing the natural coast. The natural coast of sand distills the saline water of ocean to drinking water of the coasts. The coastal region is thus facing water shortage. No wonder why we drink bottled water in spite of being largest peninsula. It is awful if ground water has gone 600 ft in MP, but a joke if don't have it in coastal region.

Structure ports and beaches

We have water on three sides, practically two sides but we have no water sport. Surfing, private boats, scuba diving, coastal sports, underwater photography is virtually dead in India. How come? Can we not create big money out of tourism as well? Can we enlighten these businessmen to make healthy money?

Dear Tanmay...

I agree that very little effort has been made till date where India has an extensive coastline of about 7500 km but what I understand is the coastal geomorphological processes are influenced by a number of environmental factors & any attempt to handle the coastal problems, either to arrest erosion or prevent deposition, requires a thorough understanding of the factors and processes involved in the coastal geomor-phological system which should be handled by experts first......

I agree with Makesh and Vinoy. Govt. did do a few things wrong, but indictment of Raja is the end of it. Subramanian Swamy just don't have a case but he still tries and misrepresent facts.
No, Its actually the definition of poor that most of us are nor clear about. You can't call a rickshaw puller in urban city a poor but still some of us will disagree. You can't call all computer programmers to belong to middle class either. Some of...
