Credibility vs Media

idea posted by Suryanarayan Murthy Free lancer
India's credibility remains strong, though some disturbing reports are coming in. One or two stray incidents - in a population of 100+ Cr is, according to me, is within acceptable levels. Awareness in people is increased, media hype is increased - stray incidents are blown out of proportion. People like Team Anna wanted to project themselves as saviors. In my opinion India's credibility is much better, with younger generation taking over slowly. Take Toostep as an example. Serious discussions - other than seeking job and self promoting posts - rest (almost 90% of them) belong to younger generation. I, on my part, watching how India is going and growing - particularly women taking over (may be the Gen-Y is not aware of Womens Lib in early 70's)

Rernashmi that is true of every country. The outsider sees only the visible immediate - usually a picture of a prosperous. They do not see the harsh realities of the interiors.

I think Indians within the country have very poor self esteem. People outside our country have high respect for the India of today. This is from my little experience with foreigners.

India very poor at self assessment

'A college student in Dahod in Gujarat was allegedly raped and video taped by her neighbor. Close on the heels of molestation of a girl in Guwahati that generated national outcry, a teenager met the same fate allegedly at the hands of army jawans in Assam's Sibsagar district, police said on Saturday. ' -  CNN-IBN report.  Add to this the Khap panchayats and widespread poverty.

Are we justified in calling ourselves a developed nation? Do we not sound foolish when we talk of becoming superpower by 2020? Are we serious when we make such claims? We either swing from extreme positive (day dreamig) to extreme negativity at the drop of a hat.

Vinoy Sanjay and Gurpeet, You definitely do have some points. But by and large we have done pretty well for ourselves.

Well..I think our love for nation has made us blind we are ignoring the crimes in society. We are proud to be an Indian but we must also understand that ignoring our weakness can have very tensed results in future. Today...crimes against women are increasing ndur police, law an order and big politicians are slient on this issue. They have to answer..who will safeguard the respect of women in India...if this situationn is not controlled on time then I feel time is not so far when we will be considered as nation without law order and heaven for crimes... Its strange to see...a good team...team Anna which is fighting against corruption is silent on this big issue of law n order failure especially in safeguarding women of nation.

Are we heading towards a Jungle Raj ,where any one with his whims and fancy can take the law and order in his hand and make a mockery of it

Totally agree with the progress we have made in our 65 years as a independent nation. However if we truly need to make the credibility of India meaningful we got to address the disparities that is looming large in our society. The disparity is not just found in monetary health but also in other matters like political empowerment, social enrichment and even in health and other social concerns. After we are able to credibly solve this concerns we got to also look into environmental and civic disciple to truly call ourselves a developed nation.

Thanks Mathew Sir, for explaining with authority what many of us always believed in. Yes There is always a number who are fascinated by the realms outside our definition of time and space. But in terms of defining government policies we cannot concern ourselves with these concepts. We do need hard scientific approach to solve the problems that Shameena has pointed out earlier. Of course India will always be proud custodians of the former theories and way of living. But in modern life we cannot define policies based on this way of living.

Let me borrow some ideas from Swami Ramchanran who is a Physicsist by training in the American Academia who is practicing metaphysics and Platonic philosophy in US. His ideas are similar to our age old Indian wisdom. He says there are two types of humans one Yogis and the other Sanatans. The former purely lives outside the realms of time and space, like those who live underground for months without food or air and come out healthy after this process. Some climb ropes, some let trucks drive over them etc;. The latter are people who believe in the "Sanathana Dharma". They believe in the 'quality' of life for humans uniformly. The western metaphors for this clustering is the Metaphycsts and the Platonists. Metaphyscsts are generally the spiritual types for them they are not influenced by time, space or materials whereas the Platonists are those who believe in science and practice science for existence. So one has the choice in modern world to be Platonists or Sanatans if quality of life is the target for individual or citizens of a nation. As Platonists we are 'observers' of nature and happenings around us and so we 'measure and calibrate' our processes in Democratic systems which the metaphysicsts cannot do. So if we need to make our dreams come true we have to make that choice as a nation to be more 'scientific' and to be 'authentic' enough to create measurable processes, choose our Political ideology and agendas scientifically so that what is observed is authentic and true to Scientific standards of 'value' and 'functionality'. With Metaphyscists this is not possible til now since they cannot observe time, space or materials as such or do anything with it to improve quality of life uniformly. Our nations seem to be not yet decided on pure scientific pursuits which stipulate existence of human race as the bottom line. So once we reach that state of consciousness about Nation Building and gain experience enough to know our 'imperatives' and priorities as a dynamic culture not static for ages our dreams will remain like the 'milkmans dreams' and slow progress for masses. Thanks.

Credit is Goodwill, goodwill comes after proven record for some long time. For example foreign exchange rates should be at par that is proven result.Loans should not be need , Without loans Budget should be more effective it should be line of action -practical then credit is for responsible or who do it.

Police must be made accountable for crime in their area

idea posted by Gurpreet Singh Team Associate, BA Continuum Solutions
I think police officers must be made accountable and answerable to court if any crime and harassment of women occures in their area and lower court must have power to suspend police officers in case they fail to solve case and answer to court. Also law amendment is needed to make harassment, molestation, and rape as non bailable offense....

We are miles away to emerge as a developed nation. Its not my intention to undermine the progress what we achieved till date, but at the same time we must also accept that we could not able to deliver as expected. Incidents as cited by Mr. Vinoy do happen here and there. For that we cant wipe out the nations dreams. But, our concept of a developed nation is different from others, its not just confined to dollar reserves. Materialism is swamping us cornering the well cherished values of the land. This is the biggest challenge today before us. We can overcome this problem by valuing the values. It should start from the individual level.
