Data thefts on a rise: How can we stop it?

According to a research conducted by security software maker Symantec Corp. thefts in corporate information and customer database has increased. It is estimated that the thefts have costed companies around $2 million on an average each year.


Most intrusions are aimed at stealing a company’s intellectual property, such as product designs etc. and other related data. Protection is a major issue and for some it is a matter of life & death.  Hackers have become more intelligent in fooling security systems & downloading the required information. Companies are puzzeled how to handle intrusions & thefts. So, how can we stop data theft?

Companies can hire some ethical hackers to deal with unwanted intrusions & data theft. These hackers should be given sufficient access to the security systems and be resposible for keeping the informations secured.

Sure, this could be a good idea. But the more important step will be to increase an awareness of securing the organization's data assets. Far too many decision makers do not appreciate the importance of allocating resources to secure their enterprise's data assets.

agree with your point....data to companies is what money to banks.........

Think that is new job profile one is going to come across ......recruiting hackers for data safety.....in that case Hackers will be Data Potectors......nick name ...DPs......

OR ...... actually we already are having data protectors  in the form of  Database administrators......certified professionals..........

From here we can have more refined approach...........

Theft ... and theft. Everything is the target of thieves specially when they get things online. Question is : how data theft can be checked ?

  • -- protect your data ( be sure U did not import these from some where .. !!)
  • -- take save gurds ( thieves themself will tell U how .. !!)
  • -- appoint some of the hakers in ur company ( they kno details about U )
  • -- pay hefty some to the hakers for not disturbing U and keep this confidentail

Above those are not real solutions. Let us find a real solution.
