Enhanced reality, a.k.a. (also known as) augmented reality, is a kind of merging between the information world and the real world.

Obviously there are many models depending on the technology route taken by a particular inventor OR as is more necessary these days, a team of inventors. [Of regional importance to us, the inventor of the enhanced reality system Sixth Sense, Pranav Mistry, is one such.]

Regardless of the method, some sort of a device is commonly used to project information which is relevant to the context a person is in. What makes this useful is if the information is projected within the visual range of the user.

For example, I, for one would find it very comforting, if, while riding my motorbike or driving my car, I could see all necessary information floating in front of my eyes. I would not need to take my eyes off the road. This very fact alone would be enough to increase safety by at least a factor of ten, if not more.

Defense applications were some of the first targets of the research and experimentation into this sci-fi seeming area. Indeed there have been many stories, by quite a few award winning authors, incorporating fictional augmented reality systems used by both soldiers and civilians. Some of these systems as described in the stories are quite complicated, going to the level of "wetware" i.e. biological computing at the level of the brain.

But that's still quite far off - or so I think.

My questions are: What would you like to see today? In other words, what information do you want floating in front of your eyes as you go about your daily life? What would be fun, interesting, useful, useless?

Feel free to be as serious, "funny", or even "silly" as you like. :D

A picture of what's behind me!

I feel that the number one useful thing for me (and almost anyone), would be to have a camera pointing to the back. The picture from this camera should be displayed in my field of vision so that I can always check on what's going on right behind my back.

What a fun thing it would be! It'd be like having eyes in the back of my head.

Varun said it well. To each his/her own. As for me, I believe that it is cost-effective to have 2 separate devices: a phone dedicated to calling and photos (e.g. dual-sim phone for under Rs.5k) a notebook/netbook/tablet (e.g. netbook for under Rs.15k)...
Excellent speech indeed. Thanks for sharing sir.
Aaaah. I just realised that providers of content streaming services and content storage to third-parties such as YouTube, etc might be held responsible for third-party content. This is why SOPA is considered draconian. Practically, this means that they...
