The views posted by friends from this are correct. Tourism industries need to give attention on the points indicated and should take remedial actions immediately.
We need to rehabilitate the Locals to raise their standards of living on par with the people who live in metros, as they are the front-end to showcase our strength! Today, every tourist spot, be it Agra, Haridwar, or anywhere in the country, the locals out there, because of their economic status, indulge in every sort of wrong doings!

Harassment to female tourists

There is a general lack of easy and tourist-friendly information at any tourist place. Our 'tourist information centre' at most of the railway stations or airports are either not manned at all or are occupied by people who are hardly visible when needed. There should be some staff at such places who can guide the tourists once they arrive at a new place. Once they settle down they can easily take care of themselves. What they need is the initial help, even which we are not able to provide |

A major contributing factor indeed.
Yes, we are lacking for providing the right/ correct information of the places.
I agree with Bhavesh's statement on the subject.
|
|
There is a very if not minimal effort to sell the Indian dream to prospective visitors. The government bodies in the tourist sectors are by and large in a limbo. It also acts as a deterrent because the topic comes under the state list and hence the chance to sell India as a brand is by and large negligible. Few states likes Kerala which have used brand building exercise have seen wonderful results.

Brand credibility is the essence of any product or service.
Yes, look at how the ASEAN countries sell their country as a destination at various tourism fairs and forums worldwide. Compared to them the attempts by India have been at best pathetic.
|
|
"Harassment" where ever we go, v just need a safe and peaceful time to get enjoying the tour. now a days there s no safer side to the foreigners . even though we have good industry since tourists affected by harassment,. |

Since i lived more than a decade abroad, I have a lot of friends there who feel encouraged to visit because they know someone here. The refrain is always the same....harassment coupled with dishonesty - in shopping, transportation ettc. Even the guides fleece them.
|
|
It is very essential to promote Brand India as a tourist destination nationally as well as at the state level. However the tourism departments are always cash strapped, there is general apathy towards work along with aging manpower never works in favour of brand promotion. What we need today is dynamic manpower who are committed to take up tourism as a career (I wonder how many of us plan to take up tourism as a career!) and work up to really explore that Incredible India as well as make India a safe tourist destination |

There are so many corrupt auto and taxi drivers who are waiting to take them for a ride and charging them too high and the transportation facility is so bad except few cities, you know them much better than anybody, so when they come to know such things and travelers avoid such places...with such minor things a value of a place is lost, so government should take care of these things and improve transportation facility at major tourist destinations

1. Failure to assure the tourist safety, security & stated quality of product services. 2. Confusing information dissemination in content and method. 3. Absence of efficient regulator. 4. Poor infrastructure and cohesive support. 5. Poor plan policies and lack of focus. 6. Almost nil coordination within various agencies in all levels. 7. Weak on discipline: Operator, industry bodies and regulator. |

Vinoy, There is no single factor alone. Everyone wants better results from tourism yet no none from policy makers to regulator to operators wants to follow their respective roles with sincerity and honesty. India requires better infrastructure, channels to hone resources and continually work to better, address Safety & Security issues seriously and develop own competencies of management rather than trying to ape other countries models.

There is a serious problems concerning the issues with the guides and duplicate travel agents.. these people project an exxagerated vision of the country which inturn creates a doubt in minds of foriegn travellers... henceforth the Govt must seriously look into the topic for promoting the Indian Tourism Industry... |
1
|
yes this is happening a lot in the tourism industry and i agree with akram on this, that government should take proper actions to curb such activities and should appoint registered guides at all the popular travel destinations in the country....
|
|
According to me this has to be a major factor just because the hotel rooms are over priced and they try to take advantage of the foreign travellers charging them very much and this is making them feel pinched on their pockets, not only foreigners but also the domestic travellers, one can,t afford such high tariffs at these hotels...

There are lots & lots of factors which effects Tourism Industy. 1.SELF DESTRUCTION: by scratching it ,marking names & splitting in the monuments. 2. LACK OF COUSTOMER SERVICE : The staffs of customer service are not proper doing their duty. 3.HARRASMENT: Men in India will not change, they alwasy harras ladies or tease them. 4. NOT PROMOTING: we are not promoting our tourism centers..

I would support Jagadeesan. Let me tell you my experience. I went to mussoorie twice over a gap of like 5 years. It was at Kempty falls. Natural beauty was being exploited to create artificial pond just below the Kempty falls. The pond was not only abandoned by majority of the visitor, it gave a sour eye view to the natural beauty of the falls. Its a gross error on part of tourism department. Similarly, My visit to Kullu-Manali from New Delhi. All along I could see, people making ugly structures, imitating the houses in the planes. Shouldn't the authorities suggest or lay some guidelines on the kind of structures, to keep the sanity of the place. Any investment should add to valuable natural and heritage resources.

PINK CITY turned RED on May 13 by the terrorist strike, killing more than 70 persons (as per government report) and leaving more than double the number as injured. The terrorist attack on the Pink City is not only an attack on humanity, but once again terrorist groups have proved that they do not have any ideology, except spreading violence and terror and they have no other cause but to harm humanity. This is the main reason that takes Indian Tourism Industry a back step. |

There are many travel agencies ,they provide conducted tours ,includes travel, hotel stay and site seing in good buses/cars with guides.Railways, roadways and airlines are providing them all .Govt. of India should provide subsidiary to encourage the tourism ,but have complete control so that nothing wrong/irregular/cheating is done as poited out by others above and below. |

As we all know last year there was a terror attack in Mumbai on Hotel Taaj & Hotel Oberoy. Because of these terror activities foreign tourists fear to come India. Apart from this the behavior of travellers with tourists is not satisfactory. Travellers cheat foreign tourists by charging handsome amount from them. Sometime tourists may not find proper guide to guide them towards places available for tours. In our country we dont deal with tourists as guest but we just see them as a tourists point of view. To attract tourists towards indian Culture we Should respect them & We should not forget : "ATITHI DEVO BHAVAH" |

Climate is an essential resource for tourism, and especially for beach, nature and winter sport tourism, and the phenomenon of global warming already gravely affects the industry and an increasing number of destinations.
It was concluded that there was an “urgent need for the tourism industry, national governments and international organizations to develop and implement strategies to face the changing climate conditions and to take preventive actions for future effects, The Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 and Hurricane Katrina that hit New Orleans in 2005, caused immeasurable costs for the travel and tourism industry.
and very recent example of Brisbane,Australia....
First estimates suggest that the floods will lead to significant cuts in Queensland’s exports of coal and agricultural production which could amount to up to AU$ 6bn or 0.5% of GDP

Our tourist places lack proper development, aesthetics, information, cleanliness even at crucial tourist places in comparison with the facilities in foreign countries.

In the recent times terrorism is one of most important factor in the roadblock of Indian tourism industry. In last few years India has seen lot of terrorist attack all around India and it has impacted a lot to Indian tourism indusrty growth. India' most cultural city & hot tourism spot like Jaipur has witnessed terrorist attack last year and it really has affected tourism industry of Rajasthan. After the abolition of Taliban now all the terriorist activity handled through pakistan and it has made the situation more vulnerable. |

It happens everywhere. It is not alien to India.

Except our metros all other cities and towns were not maintained properly. Lack of roads, drainage, transport and pollution. Politicians doesnt care about all these things if the government put road this week means next week again the road will be damaged only one week is the quality of our roads what a contractors wow....hats off

When a Foreign Tourist lands in India he first meets the Taxi Driver..then the Hotel Manager and then he sees everything else...So our staff in Service Industry should be thorougly trained to give best and Honest services to foreign Tourists...
I just attended a Seminar by Shiv Khera..he said the Taxi Drivers in Singapore are honest, humble and very good...they get trained for 2 months in delivering best services before they are given commercial license...and they have to attend a week's training program every year..So our Tourism authorities should start up similar courses and encourage our Taxi Drivers to enroll in such programs..He also narrated an instance where the Singapore Taxi Driver took 10$ instead of 11$ saying that professionally he should take 11$ but morally he took 10$ because he did not know the shortest route to reach the Hotel...

In the recent happenings where more and more foreign nationals are being targeted by the locals, where they are physically abusing them and there is increase in assault and rape cases complaint lodged, so this is majorly hindering the tourism industry, So measures should be taken to avoid such incidents and security must be beefed up all over the tourism places in the country, until the measures are taken to such things indian tourism industry will never improve

Unfortunately, our country is full of "Hungry for money" people who don't spare any outsiders. What to say about foreigners. These people can be found every where, in offices, taxi & auto drivers, coolies, guides, temples and tourist spots, as a roadside seller even professional baggers who wait for any non-localite so that they can just "ROB" them. Not only that, there is no security either of the tourists or there belongings and even our "Great" Police department arrives after are inactive. Because of all these reasons. The tourism in our country is getting a bad name. |

When the tourists come to India, they are treated very badly, due to which many foreigners never come back after their first visit. Secondly the beauty of India is fading day by day because the natural balance is disturbed every now and then by people, so the climatic changes are also severe. Also the attacks in Tourist spots and Hotels also have led to decrease in the number of tourists visiting India every year. Let us all go hand in hand to help promoting this industry. Everybody can play a role for the betterment of tourism industry and that is the best part of it.
Let's do it.
