Most exercises on equipment in a gym,if not all,have their equivalents at home or in an open ground,the only reason you go to an hermetically sealed a/c gym in an hermetically sealed a/c car from an hermetically sealed a/c home is to avoid the smells,dust,traffic of the roads and mix with 'people like us' and since you pay through your nose,(ok,not much,just about 18-40k p.a,if you like to be snooty) you have to utilise the money paid,but walking/running on the road,exercising in the parks comes free and has no value!!!So going to a gym is one of the myths in exercise industry

This is true. Infact, walking out in parks or open space is better since you breathe in fresh air. Exercising in gym is so suffocating as such! Also, exercising is somewhat unnatural when you do in gym as if you are only born to build your muscles!:-)

It's your metabolism which determines your weight. And just increasing the rate of metabolism by exercising doesn't imply it will reduce weight. Reducing weight requires immense discipline in diet and frequency of meals as well as number of calories consumed! Some people exercise more to reduce fast and then end up putting on the double the weight that is reduced once either you stop exercising or reduce your exercise time!

What do you all say? Is body more important to be focussed so much on daily basis to spend your precious time in exercising. There are much more better things to do in life like sports for physical fitness which you can enjoy or just walking around daily for just 45 minutes. People who exercise more than that may not be benefited more according to me, from my personal experience!

Human body is a biological product as per D.N.A. and gins is made for normal work as usual.So why we exercise? To get healthy body.This can achieve by hard physical work also at home/office/work place premises and saves time also.Do the work in time is also exercise,use of foot to walk for short distance,eat 20% less and sleep in time makes you fit and healthy.Other artificiallities are not rcognised.

While thanking Bindu for the referral, firstly I would wholeheartedly agree, with KP Suresh and ms Jugnu in particular, that it is not necessary to visit gyms and train on sophisticated equipment to achieve what can easily be attained at home. Our elders and forefathers had greater endurance and longliveity without these add-on accessories. We just need to maintain a healthy diet, some gentle exercise such as yoga or Taichi and a stable routine without bad habits or indulgences. Some of the best ways of losing weight are - participating in some sport (swimming) or game (badminton, tennis, golf, table tennis etc.) regularly, going forlong leisurely walks and LENDING A HAND IN HOUSEHOLD CHORES. I have found assisting in household chores the best therapy to relax me when I have had a bad day, am tense or anxious or worried. Many good practises can be added as one learns them - one glass of warm water in the morning, surya namaskar, abstaining from cold water during/after meals.
